Ahhh! Help, please!

This is a new experience for me, really, how do I politely tell a girl that I already have a girlfriend?

I’ve been partnered with this girl by the head of the Chinese dept. to be master and mistress of ceremonies for the Chinese Club’s Moon Festival celebration. She’s been dropping small hints or flirtations and she’s a really nice girl and everything so I don’t want to come across as acerbic or vulgar or anything! I’ve done my best to give neutral responses to her advances (if that makes sense?)…

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

thanks!

Is there a way to bring it up as a side casual conversation?
Something as simple as asking “How was your weekend?”… can lead into your response of “Well, my girlfriend and I went to the movies and saw XYZ - have you seen it yet?”…
That way you can tell her without it seeming blatant… know what I mean?

Hope that helps!.. good luck!

It’s not that difficult to just walk up to her the next time she does something that makes you feel uncomfortable and let her know you appreciate her friendship and that it’s great to be friend’s with her…and then be like “hey as friends want to go out to a movie with my gifl and me or to coffee or soda or something like that?” It will either make her want to ask you out and then you will really have to explain the why not or she will get the hint and stop making moves at you anymore…

*I think this is perfect advice. 👍 Not obvious, but she’ll get the picture that you have a gf. *

Since you are both working on the Moon Festival celebration, wouldn’t you be bringing your girlfriend? If this is a sit down dinner thing, maybe you could ask, “My girlfriend is coming. Are we having a head table or will be sitting with our guest?”

As others have said, you can casually mention that you have a girlfriend in conversation.

If that’s not enough to stop her “advances” (and for some girls it isn’t) then you may need to be more direct about the fact that you are uable to enter into a romantic relationship with her.
Also, don’t be surprised if she already knows you have a girlfriend and is just testing the waters to see if you are really serious about her.

Your “neutral” responses so far have caused your problem. If your response to her flirtation from the very beginning had been, “I’m really flattered, but I have a girlfriend,” you would not still be dealing with this now. I mean, honestly, you haven’t shut her down, so she has been encouraged by the lack of being shut down to continue flirting and testing your interest. A direct refusal early on would have saved you the trouble of dealing with it for weeks.

Now, if you directly tell her you have a girlfriend, and she still tries to flirt and get you interested in her… you have a whole other problem.

I am so embarrassed. It turns out that she’s simply one of those girls who by nature are somewhat flirtatious:blush:. We MC’d the Moon Festival tonight, to our Laoshi’s delight, and I dropped the hint that I had a girlfriend while complementing her on her qi pao.

Guys like me, with occasionally thick skulls, just hafta learn that just because a girl finds you interesting doesn’t necessarily mean she likes you that way!

(I love smilies)

Thanks ya’ll. False alarm, false alarm.
