Hi:

I am a recent convert. I pray the Divine Mercy everyday and a full Rosary at least once to twice a week.

I have something I need to pray for. I know people use the Rosary when asking for a particular thing/intention.

How do I do this? What I mean is, that I learned you meditate on the mysteries while you do the rosary. So you don’t meditate on what you are asking for at same time do you? Or do you pray for what you are asking for first and then do the rosary normally or after you finish, ask for your intention?

Also, do you always do a novena when praying for something?

My other question is can you use the Divine chaplet this way as well?

Thanks for any guidance.

I think any prayer can be done for a special or specific intention. I don’t think there is a prescribed method. For instance, I just say, aloud, “I pray this rosary for the intention of ____” and then I say my rosary. Same thing with any prayer. I may say, “Lord, this Hail mary is for the victims of the Bostom Marathon. Hail Mary…”

In all my years of Catholic schooling this was never taught as a “method”. It was just announced that we were praying the rosary for a certain intention and then we just prayed as we always did.

Sometimes (if it was a communal rosary) the leader might say something about the intentions when the mystery was announced at the beginning of a decade.

Thank you much. I like your little animated .gif on your signature :).
But do you still do the Rosary the same way during the Rosary? By meditating on the mystery for that day? You are supposed to do it that way aren’t you? or can you think of the thing you are praying for while saying the rosary?

Well, yesterday I read about this: denverpost.com/breakingnews/ci_23012962/vatican-declares-colorado-springs-miracle-after-prayers-nun

At the end of the novena, the child was instantly healed. They prayed that novena to Sister Maria Theresia Bonzel. How did they do that? If they were praying to Sister Bonzel, did they still do the Hail Mary, as usual?

I still do everything else the exact same way, I just do it for a specific intention.

Thank you. I guess I am worrying too much about details. HE knows what I desire so its probably silly that I’m worrying about a precise technique. You make it seem so simple. I feel better now as to how to do it.

Thank you. So I can re-announce my intention with the mystery each decade but as long as I state my intention at the beginning, that’s all needed if I understand correctly.

You got it! That’s exactly the way I look at it.

One last question on this: Can you use the Divine Mercy Chaplet for special intention prayer? I have to confess that I like praying that more than the rosary. :o
I still pray the Rosary. And i know its not about what I like or enjoy. I was just commenting
I like to pray the Mercy chaplet and the Rosary takes just a little more effort for me. I actually look forward to the chaplet.

Yes. You can offer any prayer for a specific intention. 👍

Yes.

Remember when we pray there is no magic formula we have to use lest the prayers “not work”. We don’t want to be superstitious about praying the rosary.

Rather, we ask, we pray, and we let the Lord take it from there. And we remain secure in the knowledge that our prayers will be answered in the way that is best for the Church.
