Dear Colleague: Sharing ‘A Responsive Prayer for Justice’ |
Speaker Nancy Pelosi

Aug 9, 2020 · Pray harder for those who will not feed them. Pray for those who struggle each week to pay their bills. Pray harder for the wealthy who do not care.

Politicizing prayer?

Let me add: Pray harder for Catholic politicians who seek to make it easier to kill unborn babies, pray harder for Catholic politicians who call themselves “devout” thus leading people to have mistaken views about what the Church founded by Christ actually teaches, Pray harder for Catholic politicians who write laws attacking religious freedom

Really?

It was fairly generic in scope.

Notice, I did not detract from the original prayer…I just added to it.
No, you did not add to it. You created your own prayer. Your prayer does not Include:
Pray harder for those who will not feed them. Pray for those who struggle each week to pay their bills. Pray harder for the wealthy who do not care.
Are you against those things I think we should pray for?
IMHO, God does not care one way or the other. If he did, I believe he would have guided the members of SCOTUS in 1973 to the perceived Catholic correct decision concerning Roe vs Wade. But he did not. In 2 years and 4 months, it will be 50 years since that ruling. God has answered no one’s prayer yet. The US is becoming more and more progressive and liberal by the year. I don’t pray for things that God has pretty much set in proverbial stone when he created this earth. Women don’t need a Doctor or the Morning after Pill to procure an abortion. All they need is what God created. Those things being Mercury, Green Papaya, Cinnamon, Cohosh, Parsley, Dong Quai, Bamboo, Longan, Camellia, Pineapple Juice, Aloe, or Pomegranite. When the first wise-woman, witch-doctor or whatever the village herbalist was called back in ancient days discovered that a certain item could cause an abortion, then God could have wiped these things from existence to prevent them from being used for such purposes. But God did not. And here is the rub of salt into the wound. In the instance God made these things he also saw it’s use for such purposes as those uses were being conducted.

People could pray 24/7 to end abortion till the Sun expands to a Red Giant, but IMHO, it ain’t gonna happen. Imagine praying to God to undo a portion of what he did during the six periods of creation?

What I do pray is the Breviary as best as I can. Don’t always have the time. Wife and grandkids get in the way of course.

God must love poverty and war then. Been around for awhile. Your approach renders all prayer futile, and puts human and temporal limitations on God, thus contending we can possibly understand his divine plan which spans an infinite amount of time.

God must love poverty and war then.
That is your choice of words.
Been around for awhile.
So have I.
Your approach renders all prayer futile, and puts human and temporal limitations on God,
Not a all. God does as he wills. All I have done is point out what he has done and not done up to this point in time.
thus contending we can possibly understand his divine plan which spans an infinite amount of time.
A false assessment.

You’re right. Income inequality and poverty have been around since biblical times. Wasted prayers, IYO?

Again your choice of words, not mine.
Your logic regarding prayer to end abortion, just applied to another issue. Perhaps it is just bad logic? Just show me where Catholic teaching supports who you have posited.

Is all Catholic Teaching Logical?

Remember our Religion is based on Conviction(Faith).

And the Catechism ( Catholic Teaching ) has had a series of volume changes over the centuries.

So when you say the catechism, you really mean the whole of Catholic teaching.
No I mean actual Texts.

Read the ETWN article.

Teachings has grown from the one page Didache to the current one that is too many pages long.
I can’t find mine off hand. Office is messy.

But since you mentioned it.
Yes there have been course corrections there as well when some issue came under attack. A Council had to be convened to address it.
