I want to build a better spiritual life in our home. My wife and I pray with our daughter, but not together alone as husband and wife. We are regular Mass attendees, but we never pray together. Not sure why, seems maybe awkward etc. I am seeking advice and thoughts on how to pray with your spouse. God Bless.

My wife and myself pray together every morning before I go to work. We have a prayer corner in our home where we keep our Bibles and various sacramentals. We also frequently pray the Rosary together and also our bedtime prayers. There are many opportunities to pray the Rosary during the day, such as a neighborhood walk or a highway car trip.

This sounds like a good topic of discussion for you and your spouse. Praying together helps a couple to grow together.

I admit it does feel somewhat awkward. I have done it a couple times recently with my wife and I had to be the one to pray because she is always nervous about praying aloud…or anything where the focus is on her, for that matter…She doesn’t even say the blessing at dinner. It felt a little weird, but I imagine that after doing it a few times it would feel more normal and therefore easier.

All that being said, I have no suggestions, but I am looking forward to all the answers on this thread.🙂

My wife and I have been praying the magnificat morning prayer and evening prayer for about a year now. Initially when we prayed together, it was a little off putting, but that goes away. Even the wife gets into it now, which a lot like your wife she just wanted me to run the show.

When we started we were using a Catholic prayer book we inherited, but soon that became rote, we began to say the same things over and over, and it was easy to do it with out thinking.

We then got a subscription to the maginificat and they have a morning and an evening prayer for each day. It really is very nice, and I find that she and I can jump into prayer whenever needed, very quickly. For example if we see life flight or an ambulance we try to pray for the poor souls involved in the transport.

Hope that helps. Stick with it!
