How to prepare for Confession

Do any of you all have a good link on how best to prepare for Confession. Do you think it’s a good idea to go in for more than the normal Saturday 10 confession (that I don’t do that often anyway) before going in for Surgery?
 
When I went to confession prior to surgery last month, the priest also annointed me (annointing of the sick). I was quite grateful.
