I have heard of someone on here who was an atheist and became catholic because of St Thomas’ 5 proofs. When understood correctly about what God is, they are infallible.
You are assuming a deist view of creation not a theistic one – certainly not a Thomistic one. God sustains creation in being at each moment, he didn’t create once and let things unfold. He is the Subsistent Act of Being Itself that sustains creation in being now.
God does not merely pay the boarding fees nor the alimony for someone else to do the maintaining.
Maintenance/sustenance of mere existence is not making - nor is it necessarily caring as many single parent children with an absent father experience every day.
