Well, this is a stupid question, but here goes…

I admit, I have a fiery envy. And it is not in general. In general, Im rather generous.
BUT In this particular situaton…
So, I have a friend who is like a sister to me, strong in her faith and all, and I do what I can to make sure she knows the Love of God. I have gotten close to her, inviting her to parish youth group, helping in the group she started, joining school clubs together, hanging out, our parents are close friends, I even took her to homecoming.
But recently, she has done nothing but talk about this guy in her theology class who she has a crush on…
I feel sooo silly for even asking this…but how do I quench the fiery envy?
I am trying to launch myself into a very vigorous prayer life, but it is distracting from prayer and virtue when your heart is possessed by envy.
But i cant stop thinking about it and fuming. already the fuming manifests as almost cruel teasing of her and her crush, and she gets mad.
What can I do to stop my envy?

Get a girlfriend of your own. OR, be honest with her. Tell her you have a huge crush on her.
There’s no sin in being attracted to a nice young girl. Maybe you’re been so bent on being her sister in Christ she has no clue you like her. 🤷

But being mean to her is just wrong. And you know it. Make peace with her either way.

Have you tried talking to her about it? Sounds like you need to find out what’s behind the envy. If she is a good friend she can help you with this.

Well, im discerning priesthood and rather introverted, plus Im 14 so I have NOOO desire to get a girlfriend of my own.

And, true, she has no idea I like her and maybe I could change that, but Im just worried that would ruin the friendship.

How close do you feel to her? Do you feel comfortable enough telling her how you feel, that you feel envious of her relationship?

The first thing to do is determine what sin it is. This isn’t envy, but jealousy.

Jealousy is hard to overcome. All you can really do is a) pray to not be jealous, b) not to give in when jealousy starts to creep into your heart, c) remind yourself that it isn’t about you.

I used to get really jealous of my spiritual director being all friendly with my friends, but ignoring my existence. It didn’t help that they all went on a long pilgrimage and became a bit cliquish when they returned. I don’t what I did to get rid of it. It just sort of went away.
