I’m just wondering in these present times that around us, we don’t know that the persons we are meeting with or even living with is an anti-Christ. Could you share your view on how to distinguish the anti-Christ?

My view is that, the mark of the anti-Christ is not just a person but it could be a products, groups, organizations or a movement that bears its mark and not only the number 666.

Aware or unaware we also our self might be supporting the anti-Christ? My point on this topic is to share if someone who has the wisdom to help us to avoid supporting the anti-Christ by buying their product or joining their movement or by any ways that we might be trap. Our times nowadays are the end times in which the enemy the devil will do any kind of tricks to trap more and more souls.

As mention in the book of Revelation that time will come that we cannot buy or sell without the mark of the beast which is the anti-Christ. Now its hard to buy without a Credit Card or ATM. Purchasing on line is also hard if you will not log on with World Wide Web or www, where the letter w in Greek or Hebrew is equivalent to no. 6 so www = 666. The VISA card can also be a mark? VI=6, S=6 and A in Chinese character is = 6, in short the word VISA is same as 666. and etc.

Please share your wisdom and knowledge for us to stand and remain in faith in the final days of end of times.

As Fulton Sheen said; Truth will always be a truth even no one will believe and Lies will always be a lie even everyone will believe

Your brother in Christ,

Tony

**1. Saying www = 666 is nonsense. There is no such letter as W in either Greek OR Hebrew.
  1. Saying VISA = 666 by invoking the characters of three different languages is even BIGGER nonsense.
And since when does does a Latin “S” equal 6? The Greek alphameric character for 6 is a combination of the letters Sigma and Tav.

The mark of the Beast is not simply three 6’s. The NUMBER of the Beast–not the mark-- is the number six hundred sixty-six. Reread Revelation 13 carefully.**

the english language didn’t exist when revelations was written so…

Thank you for reminding me to read more carefully on the book of Revelation, but I did already and repeated it a couple of times. How about you did you do that? I think before we comment something we have to do some deeper research. I understand if you think that those are nonsense because you might not happen to knew it.

That’s why as you said that the mark of the beast is not just three 6’s it might be a hidden character or symbols as to represent the mark of the beast which came from the number of the Beast (666)

If you combine Sigma and Tau you will come out with the value of 500, which is Sigma=200 and Tau=300 (go to Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia)

Also in Greek corresponding Phoenician letter Y will be pronounce as Waw with transliteration as w and pronounce as (w) which has a numeric value of 6.

S = 6 is not came from the Latin but it came from the financial word for six.

We are now in the modern world, be aware that the enemy will always use by any means to deceived many soul, try to think about it.

Yes you are right but we are now living in these modern world in which lots of alphabet characters could be use to hide their footprints.

The Symbolism of Numbers in the Bible
compiled by Felix Just, S.J., Ph.D.

In many ancient cultures, including Ancient Judaism and Early Christianity, numbers were not used as precisely as we might presuppose today. Thus, numbers in the Old Testament and New Testament books are often meant symbolically, not literally. For example:

When the Israelites wanted to say “a long time,” they would say “40 days” or “40 years.” Not concerned with meticulous precision as much as we are today, saying “forty” did not mean that they counted carefully, and the result was exactly between 39 and 41, no more and no less.
Similarly, to say “a short time,” the Scriptures often say “on the third day” or “in three days,” but without meaning exactly 72 hours!
Consider the symbolism of other numbers used in biblical texts:

1 singularity; God in monotheism (Deut 6:4); unity for humans (John 10:16; Eph 4:4)
2 duality: contrary (light/dark, good/evil) or complimentary (material/spiritual; human/divine)
3 God’s actions: 3 “visitors” (Gen 18:2); “third day” (Exod 19:11); later “Trinity” (Matt 28:19)
3½ half of seven; thus things in process, still incomplete
4 earth, directions, winds, empires; later the four Gospels or four Evangelists
6 human work/effort (Luke 13:14); incompleteness, imperfection, lack (not yet 7)
7 days in a week, sabbath rest (Gen 2:1-3); thus natural & divine completeness/perfection
8 Jewish day of Circumcision (Exod 22:30); Christian day of Resurrection (John 20:26)
10 completion; basis of many number systems (# digits on fingers/toes!)
11 incompletion; only eleven apostles remain after Judas’ death
12 months per year, tribes of Israel, apostles of Jesus; human completion
[13] [used in later superstition; based on Judas, but not used in Bible itself]
24 Christian number for completion/restoration: OT tribes + NT apostles
30 days in month in ancient lunar calendars
40 very long time: years of Israel’s Exodus, days of Jesus’ temptation
42 number of months in 3½ years (half of seven years; see also 1260 days)
100 = 10x10
144 = 12x12, thus perfect completion
360 number of days in a lunar year
365 number of days in a solar year (cf. Gen 5:23)
666 number of the beast (Rev 13:18 only; variant reading is 616)
1000 = 10x10x10
1260 number of days in 3½ years (thus incompletion)
10,000 “myriad”; highest ancient number with its own name

Larger numbers in the Bible are often multiples of these basic numbers, thus combining their significance:

7000 = 7 x 1000; 12,000 = 12 x 1000; 20,000 = 2 x 10,000; 144,000 = 12 x 12,000
“200 million” in Rev 9:16 is an English equivalent for 20,000 x 10,000; but there is no word in Hebrew or Greek for “million” or “billion”

Who or What Is the Beast?

The answer to this nearly 2000-year-old question depends on how you choose to interpret the Book of Revelation (a.k.a. the Apocalypse), the last book of the New Testament.

Near the middle of this highly symbolic book are descriptions of several strange creatures:

First, “a great red dragon, with seven heads and ten horns, and seven diadems on his heads”; it is described further after being defeated by Michael and his angels in a battle in heaven: “The great dragon was thrown down, that ancient serpent, who is called the Devil and Satan, the deceiver of the whole world–he was thrown down to the earth, and his angels were thrown down with him” (Rev 12:3-18);
Second, “a beast rising out of the sea having ten horns and seven heads; and on its horns were ten diadems, and on its heads were blasphemous names… [it] was like a leopard, its feet were like a bear’s, and its mouth was like a lion’s mouth. And the dragon gave it his power and his throne and great authority…” (Rev 13:1-10);
Third, “another beast that rose out of the earth; it had two horns like a lamb and it spoke like a dragon. It exercises all the authority of the first beast on its behalf, and it makes the earth and its inhabitants worship the first beast…” (Rev 13:11-18).
At the end of the paragraph about this third beast, the author challenges the reader with an intriguing puzzle: “This calls for wisdom: let anyone with understanding calculate the number of the beast, for it is the number of a person. Its number is six hundred sixty-six.” (13:18).

In order to understand this text, one must know that ancient Hebrew (like Greek and other ancient languages) did not have a separate set of characters to indicate numbers, but simply used the letters of its alphabet to represent numbers. This fact provides the basis for the ancient practice of “gematria,” in which numerical equivalents of words and names are calculated (still a popular game today!).

The basic idea is that every word has a number associated with it, obtained by adding up the numerical equivalent of each letter in the word.
This is mostly commonly done with names; thus every person has a number, the numerical value of his or her name.
There are several different ways of assigning numbers to the twenty-two letters of the Hebrew alphabet, but the system most commonly used is this:
alef = 1; bet = 2; gimel = 3; dalet = 4; hey = 5; waw = 6; zayin = 7; chet = 8; tet = 9; yod = 10; kaf = 20; lamed = 30; mem = 40; nun = 50; samek = 60; ayin = 70; pey = 80; tsadeh = 90; qof = 100; resh = 200; shin = 300; taw = 400.
For example, the name “David” has a value of 14 in Hebrew (since it is written dalet-waw-dalet, which is 4+6+4); see Matthew 1:17.
The same game can be played in any language by assigning numerical values to each letter of the alphabet:
In English, for example, we could have
a = 1, b = 2, c = 3, d = 4, e = 5, f = 6, g = 7, h = 8, i = 9, j = 10,
k = 20, l = 30, m = 40, n = 50, o = 60, p = 70, q = 80, r = 90, s = 100,
t = 200, u = 300, v = 400, w = 500, x = 600, y = 700, z = 800.
Now calculate the number of YOUR name! Find the value of each letter of your name, and add them all together. You can get a number corresponding to your first name, another number for your last name, and another number for both together. You will get different results if you use longer or shorter versions of your name, or nicknames, or include middle names, or titles or suffices.
The results you want to get may also determine which numerical system you choose; for example, you can get HITLER = 666 if you choose a system in which a=100, b=101, c=102, etc.
For a more extensive introduction to Hebrew gematria, see The Art of Gematria: Hebrew Numerology.
So, Who Is the Person Whose Number Is 666?

Throughout history, attempts have been made to identify 666 with many famous people (usually one’s enemies)!

Since the Reformation (and still today!), some Protestants have tried to connect 666 with the Pope, either with the “Roman Pontiff” in general or with a specific Pope in particular. (For example, see the article by Michael Scheifler, from a Seventh Day Adventist perspective; but see also a response to this article by Mario Derksen on the “Catholic Insight” webpages.) On the other hand, some Catholics used to see a link between the apocalyptic beast and Martin Luther.
Some Democrats have tried to associate the beast with Ronald Reagan or George W. Bush, while some Republicans might argue it was John F. Kennedy or Bill Clinton (see the websites listed in the “Fun and Humorous” section above).
Most biblical historians agree, however, that the Book of Revelation is simply referring to the Roman Emperor NERO, the most “beastly” ruler of the first Christian Century:

The Hebrew equivalent of “Emperor Nero” could be written NRWN QSR (nun-resh-waw-nun qof-samek-resh in Hebrew spelling); thus, the first word is 50+200+6+50, the second word is 100+60+200, and the total is no surprise!
For more extensive discussion of the first-century Roman Empire and the historical references behind the dragon, the sea beast, and the land beast in Rev 12-13, see any good biblical commentary on the Book of Revelation.
Is the Number Really 666, or Was It Originally 616?

While most ancient Greek manuscripts of the New Testament have the number “six hundred sixty-six” in Rev 13:18, some ancient manuscripts contain the alternate reading “six hundred sixteen” (616), which might well be the older or original reading of this text.
A branch of biblical scholarship called “textual” criticism deals with such issues, trying to determine which variant was more likely the original reading. If the text originally said 666, how and why was it changed to 616 in later manuscripts? Or vice-versa, if the original text was 616, how and why was it later changed to 666?
The proposal that 616 is the older and better reading of Rev 13:18 was recently bolstered by some newly published Oxyrhynchus Papyri.
The Oxyrhynchus Papyri website also has a discussion of Numerology, but opposes the application to Nero.
Thanks to my friend and colleague Robert M. Royalty, Jr., Ph.D., for telling me about this new discovery and website!
The change from “616” to “666” can easily be explained, especially if the historical reference was originally to Emperor Nero.
The final letter “nun” is optional in the Hebrew spelling of Nero. Thus, NRW QSR would be 50+200+6+100+60+200 = 616.
If this was the original reading, it is easy to see how the text of Rev 13:8 would have been changed to “666,” due to its more highly symbolic value (since “6” represents lack or incompleteness, in contrast to the number “7” representing completion, the triple 666 represents evil more clearly than 616.)

Isn’t he supposed to come about during a time of peace and prosperity? Was that meant to be global peace, global prosperity? Or peace and prosperity for some?

Guess we can rule out his appearance for the time being anyway. Global peace has never been. Prosperity globally has never been.

Juliamajor has given a very good background to the 666 discussion - and it seems that the reference to the 666 as being a reference to Nero makes the most sense given the time when revelation was written and the tremendous persecution of the early Christians under the rule of Nero. Of course the vagaries of this numbers game allow anyone with a bit of imagination and creativity to propose just about anyone as the representative of the number 666. Whether one automatically transfers this numbers connection to say that Nero was/is in fact THE antichrist is perhaps a little less certain…

The Catechism (para 675) talks about the unveiling of "the ‘mystery of iniquity’ in the form of a religious deception offering men an apparent solution to their problems at the price of apostasy from the truth. The supreme religious deception is that of the Antichrist, a pseudo-messianism by which man glorifies himself in place of God and of his Messiah come in the flesh."

The words which stand out for me in this pargraph from the Catechism are “religious deception” and “truth”. Could one interpret this perhaps to mean that anyone who has strayed from the truth of the teaching of God is labouring under a deception which is in fact, of itself, the fruits of the Antichrist? So perhaps, instead of trying to identify the Antichrist as a specific individual person or being, or even category of person, as so many people like to do, perhaps the Antichist is something far more subtle and perhaps takes the form of a “state of mind” or “state of being” which has, through deception, error, or deliberate but misguided intention, strayed from a “state of living in fullness and truth with Christ”?

Surely Satan would be achieving his primary goals were he to steer people subtly away from the fullness of truth (which is of course found in the magisterium and teachings of the Catholic Church). Surely Satan would like to lead people to follow that which is NOT the fullness of truth, by ANY means possible! Is it perhaps then not purely incidental whether or not, in being lead astray, people fall into traps of materialism, of paganism, of populism, or even of the following of any religious beliefs other than those teachings which constitute the fullness of truth? As long as Satan has found a means to deceive, to deflect, to steer people towards anything at all which does not constitute living according to God’s laws and tenets, Satan has achieved something.

So my point in broad terms then is - should we not perhaps view the Antichrist almost as a state of mind / state of being which has resulted from being deceived or deflected away from an understanding and knowledge of the fullness of truth. Certainly Satan is the driving force behind the Antichrist, but Satan is so subtle that we might all be missing the fact that the Antichrist is perhaps anything at all which drives us away from living as God wants us to live… Anything at all which deflects from God and God’s teachings for us, is, after all, anti-Christ…

If I believe that abortion is a viable alternative - that is anti-Christ. If I focus my life on earning material wealth to the exclusion of my spiritual well-being, that is anti-Christ. So the fact that I am deceived into following or living contrary to the way God wants me to live, in whatever way, is anti-Christ. So does that not mean that THE Antichrist, ultimately is simply Satan himself, who has deceived people into straying from God’s truth! Anything at all then that leads us away from Christ (and there are many evils in this world today) is therefore surely a/the mark of the Antichrist?

Look forward to others thoughts on this…

Patrick

To juliamajor and Patrick Cox

Thanks to you for sharing the knowledge and wisdom about the topic, it will make our mind understand the way that we did not expect to be that way. It seems that there is someone up there who arranges the way it will deliver. First with **juliamajor ** who explain about the no. 666 and it was very well explain. and Patrick Cox who did then share the wisdom about the modern anti-Christ that could not be seen by our naked eyes but by looking of what’s happening through the events that would happen as it is in the past.

I appreciate your time and effort of doing such an eye opening to be aware of the presence of the anti-Christ in our modern time as it is in the past.

Your brother in Christ

Tony
