There’s a verse such as this:

Proverbs 28:23
Whoever rebukes a person will in the end gain favor rather than one who has a flattering tongue.

I found out the meaning of rebuke: It’s to criticize sharply. So does that mean I accuse people, I could yell loud and call somebody a fool if he were one? Doesn’t it seem to be bad?

There’s something getting on its way:

Ephesians 4:29
Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.

If them combined, I get “constructive criticism”. What do you guys think?

I found another,

Luke 17:3
3 So watch yourselves. “If your brother or sister sins against you, rebuke them; and if they repent, forgive them.

So those who yell and speak lowly of me are correct? It feels wrong.

Keep your opinions to yourself, unless someone asks to hear them. If someone asks your opinion, then share is freely and with respect for their differing point of view. That is the more mature action. Lead by example. Attract people to you by your actions. If you rebuke them, you only alienate people, and they will reject your opinion for your apparent immaturity and impulsiveness. You will not win anyone over to your point of view by castigating them.

No they are not correct if they act superior and do not “rebuke” you in a Christian way. You can tell a person he is wrong in a way that shows you care about them and want them to be aware of their behavior.

In the past I have been corrected in a loving way by a friend, and due to that I changed the way I was wrongly thinking about something, shortly after she spoke to me. She “rebuked” me in a loving, respectful way.

Well, I still like to see other guys’ answers. I’m glad to see your point, the harsh sharp critiques on me on my life were weighing down on me.

So, you’re not agreeing with rebuking?
It is a childish behavior. It accomplishes nothing, except resentment. I obviates the possibility of mature communication on a topic. You will not change anyone but a child’s behavior, or point of view by acting superior, and scolding them. In all honesty, you have no foundation under your own feet when you do that. You become a parody of a person.

Why not approach a problem as an adult, and try to find a solution when there are disagreements? If agreement cannot be found, then accept the diversity of the world, as long as you are satisfied with your own spiritual place.

Rebuking another person is like standing on a soapbox and yelling, “I AM IMMATURE AND INSECURE IN MY SPIRITUAL LIFE. I DEMAND THAT YOU CHANGE YOUR BEHAVIOR IN ORDER TO SATISFY MY IMPULSIVE INNER DIFFICULTIES”.

Does that answer your question, as to my opinion?

Okay I understand what you say. But I’d to see more of other’s point of view.

The first passage from Proverbs is not trying to make the point that rebuking is always right. It seems more natural to interpret this as saying that “Honest rebuke is better than dishonest flattery.”

Of course, Ephesians does not make any allusions to what is unwholesome talk; it simple instructs us that we should not speak in an unwholesome way. In other words, this passage does not provide an interpretation of what is considered unwholesome, only that unwholesome talk is to be avoided
If your brother or sister sins against you, rebuke them; and if they repent, forgive them.

So those who yell and speak lowly of me are correct? It feels wrong.
  1. Rebuke is not defined as yelling. More accurately, it is a reprimand. Primary school teachers often reprimand their students, yet it is typically rare that they will yell at them.
  2. Rebuke is an action which is directed toward the perpetrator of whatever wrong was committed. Your suggestion that this is equal to speaking lowly of someone is awfully assuming. Rebuke does not insinuate any actions that are committed to any 3rd party , such as gossiping about or, as you put it, “speak[ing] lowly of” the perpetrator to anyone else.
Hope this helps, and God bless.
