I prefer answerrs from those who attend the SSPX chapels or are at least SSPX friendly.

I have a couple dilemmas. First off, I still attend the Novus Ordo (strictly for Holy Communion as our priests aren’t *so *liberal that they do not consecrate).
  1. Do I receive Holy Communion from the priest and in the hand or from an extraordinary Eucharistic minister and on the tongue, or not at all? (One of our priests is 92 and only gives Communion in the hand because he doesn’t want to drop the Eucharist)
  2. Since we have no kneelers I always genuflect before receiving. This one priest isn’t fond of that, but he’s now saying “Amen” when giving me Communion because I don’t say it. I’m concerned that he will soon not give me Communion unless I say “Amen” (for some reason he doesn’t think the genuflection says it enough:cool: ) Do I just not make a big deal of this and say “Amen” or go to the extraordinary Eucharistic minister, or again, not at all?
I’m doing the First Friday/Saturday devotion so opinions by 6pm (Pacific time) would be best, but all times welcome…better to know late than never, eh?

In the Novus Ordo Mass, it is your place to say “Amen”.

Regarding the EMHCs, they have been instituted under the authority of the Bishop; interestingly, you may find they are more likely to give you Communion on the tongue, 'cause they are often cautious about upsetting people.

I sound as if I’m against you; rest assured I’m not, but I think we need to show some conciliation too.

I usually attend the Mass (extraordinary form) at an FSSP apostolate parish and occasionally the Mass (ordinary form) on may way to work. In the extraordinary form, the Priest recites a prayer and conludes it with the “Amen” as he places the Blessed Sacrament on the tongue. So there is no need to repeat the “Amen”, in the later, the Priest holds the Blessed Sacrament and anounces “The Body of Christ” to which the communicant gives an assent to Faith by saying “Amen”. I prefer receiving Holy Communion from a Priest (Ordinary Minister of the Eucharist) and on the tongue at Mass in the ordinary form. The Congregation for the Liturgy and Sacraments stated that a communicant may receive Holy Communion on the tongue and kneeling if they so choose and cannot be denied the Sacrament. In fact, a member of that Congregation recently was quoted as saying the practice of receiving Holy Communion in the hand should be revisited and permission to do so be revoked as the practice has led to abuse and a general decline in reverence for the Blessed Sacrament.

Here’s the article to which you’re referring; just read it myself and find it to be a very interesting comment!

CNS STORY: Vatican official: Church should reconsider Communion in the hand

I attend an SSPX chapel. I understand your feelings of confusion. This is something best discerned on your own with prayer, but personally speaking if I was in your situation (and it was impossible to find a TLM or at least more traditional NOM), I would receive from the priest even though it would have to be in the hand. It is a total contradiction to the traditional belief that unconsecrated hands should not touch the Body of Christ, but at least it is consecrated hands placing Him into yours. I suppose I would say the “Amen” and definitely continue to genuflect first. If this parish church is absolutely your only option, I hope you will continue to stand firm in your conviction to offer due reverence to Our Lord, regardless of the whisperings or looks of others.

It is so very sad that our Holy Mother Church has such disparate beliefs among its members, this is truly a trial we are undergoing.

Thank you all for your posts, they were very encouraging. God Bless.
