Thanks for all of the advice! Very good insights! Part of the problem is that her brother is a priest, and he holds these same views himself. Naturally she believes him over me. The other thing I have noticed is that they will listen to a homily at Mass, and then twist its meaning to fit their views. I was with them at Mass when the priest spoke about religious freedom and the HHS mandate, and they took it to mean the exact opposite of what was intended…they thought the priest was saying the mandate is a good thing, and when the priest said that we can’t take away a person’s freedom of religion, they actually took that to mean that the Church can’t be against same sex marriage. I heard the same homily, and that is DEFINITELY NOT what the priest meant.
I am wondering if I should even try to convince them of the truth, or just pray for them.
