Rand Al'Thor:
Peace be with you!
I am starting a new thread to address your statements so that this one will not get hijacked.
In Christ,
Rand
OK. I’ll be looking for the new thread. Even though this topic has probably been discussed numerous times on these boards, I believe it is important to continue to discuss it, since many people are either unaware of what the Church has always taught, or else they fall into the category of those who reduce the term “no salvation outside of the Catholic Church” to a meaningless formula.
Pius XII, 1950: “Some reduce to a meaningless formula the necessity of belonging to the true Church in order to gain eternal salvation”.
There is no question, the vast majority of Catholics today have reduced this doctrine to a “meaningless formula”; and further still, they claim that those who have not reduced it to a meaningless formula - that is, those who believe the doctrine as it has always been taught - “place their own beliefs above those of the teachings of the Pope”.
So, it is good that this topic be discussed so that those who reduce the doctrine of
no salvation outside fo the Catholic Church to a meaningless formula, can be shown the truth and correct their error.
And this is no small error, for the Holy Father himself, in a magisterial document, stated that this is error is “deadly”.
Pope Gregory XVI (AD 1831 – 1846): “Now We consider another abundant source of the evils with which the Church is afflicted at present: indifferentism. This perverse opinion is spread on all sides by the fraud of the wicked who claim that it is
possible to obtain the eternal salvation of the soul by the profession of any kind of religion, as long as morality is maintained. Surely, in so clear a matter, you will drive this
deadly error far from the people committed to your care”. (Mirari Vos).
Those of us who follow the magisterium will not disregard this warning of the Pope. Even though it is politically incorrect to do so, the faithfull Catholic will preach against this
“deadly error” and
“source of evils with which the Church is afflicted”. And they will follow the command of another Pope - Pope Pius IX - to the Bishops of his day, by renouncing this *“devilish system of indifference between different religions…
"diligently defend your people against these pernicious errors.
Saturate them with the doctrine of Catholic truth more accurately each day. Teach them that just as there is only one God, one Christ, one Holy Spirit, so there is only one truth, which is divinely revealed. There is only one divine faith. … There is only one True, Holy, Catholic Church, which is the Apostolic Roman Church. There is only one See founded on Peter by the word of the Lord, outside of which we cannot have God for a father…” (Singulari Quiden, Blessed Pope Pius IX).
So yes, in a day when the teaching of the Church on this subject has all but disapeared behind the mist of liberalism and confusion, the faithful Catholic will speak all the more loudly and clearly in proclaiming what the Church has always taught in the hope of dispelling the darkness of error by the clear words of the timeless magisterium.
Therefore, I will be looking forward to your new thread.*
