Father Lawrence Raj, parish priest at the beachside Catholic church of St. Thomas, was asleep when he felt the first shockwaves of an earthquake early Sunday, he said in an interview. People ran in panic during a tremor that Raj said lasted 15 minutes.

“That was the strongest tremor that I have ever experienced,” he said.

When calm returned, the priest sat down for breakfast, and just as he was finishing, he heard a loud noise, about two hours after the temblor, and sent someone to investigate.

“He came back running, describing the 15-foot high waves,” Raj said. “We could see the waves. They were very strong” and pounded the area for 15 minutes, he estimated.

We Americans are soooooo “stingy” aren’t we?? Maybe if we had higher tax rates, we could be a better country.

At least that’s what some UN bureaucrat said in regards to the relief effort thus far.

Uh…anyone see an airbus full of food from France?? Any aid from Iran, Syria, or Saudia Arabia so far??? Just checking…

I like to give to Catholic Charities only in these occations, because I know how the money will be used and their very low overhead costs. Their website does not say anything, but I called teh local # and they told me to send a check.
Any other (name removed by moderator)ut on this?

I have heard before doctors without frontiers support abortions in poor countries so I nevre give them money, unicef the same…

God Bless,

I am working to get envelopes for Catholic Relief Services and hand them out at mass this weekend. Anyone who might like to do like wise, can find the co-ordinator in your diocese and contact them. Ask your priest if it is ok FIRST though. They would have to come on board to do it.
