I don’t really have the heart to serve God properly anyore.😦 Because my father, who is 53 yrs old and should be wise,* insults *me just because I want to be good all the time! He expects me to just put up with him and mother, even though they aren’t married.(Mother is ALMOST as bad,but she is a lunatic and very unwell and buys me presents, so I forgive her.) But I cannot put up with them. I used to think father was wise, a few years ago, but then he started being horrible.Besides, Deuteronomy 23:2 says that children will be punished if they have stupid parents! And I refuse to be punished just because he is sinfull! Thats not fair.He should be wise and good, but he is not.And that is a sad fact. So how can I serve God if I have such horrible parents? And also, why did God say he would punish children for having bad parents?

Deuteronomy 23:2–in fact, alll the curses of the Law–were nailed to the Cross at Christ’s crucifixion.

Do you honestly think God looks at you through the lens of your parents?

And are you living on your own? You sound like you should be old enough to if your father is 53.

53 is not that old. I know 53 year olds who have toddlers. The OP can sounds like he is in his teens.

Teelium is 14.

Teelium – this is hard. Ya gotta back off the judgment (not that you’re wrong) because you are not in a postion to preach to them.

The best you can do is be your true self: good all the time, if that’s who you truly are.

BTW, my parents were very “good” but they had a sleazy sense of humor that tended towards the crass, and when my cousins and I used to cringe at their tacky jokes, they would say we needed to “grow up” and stop being so prudish and “uppity” and “holier than thou.”

Saints have come from “bad” families. Maybe your lot is to pray your parents into heaven.

Don’t take yourself too seriously- try to laugh once in a while. It is quite possible to be “good all the time” without pointing out everyone’s flaws and mistakes.

You’ve received plenty of good advice on this topic so far…

Thanks for all of your advice. I wasn’t thinking about what Jesus said when I wrote this thread. Now I’m sorry.I should be a better Christian:p

Hi teelium,
I just wanted to say we have the same birthday 🙂 although I am over double your age. I don’t think I know anyone else born on that date except you 🙂

I e.Besides, Deuteronomy 23:2 says that children will be punished if they have stupid parents! ?
no, it does not say this.
you are to obey your parents in all things that are not sinful or harmful, and submit to them as you would to Christ himself, lovingly and without grumbling.

On Douay-Rheims edition, it says something else:
A mamzer, that is to say, one born of a prostitute, shall not enter into the church of the Lord, until the tenth generation.

Old testament.

We’re living in the new testament. Love, forgiveness, mercy, etc.

You have your path to sainthood marked well. You can pray for the conversion of your parents and offer up your suffering to that end. This will be so pleasing to God the graces will come pouring out onto you. What is more, your experience should be an inspiration to all of us. You are truly suffering for righteousness. Look up Matthew 25 for what Jesus says about you. 🙂
Code:
For inspiration, look up the lives of Bl. Margaret of Castello. (Talk about mean parents!), St. Barbara (her father killed her for becoming a Christian), and St. Dymphna. Sounds like you're in good company. ;:p
Lucy 😉
