Hopefully, I am posting this in the correct spot, if not I apologize. I have two questions, First is how do I show devotion to a Saint? I prayed a Novena to St. Jude Thaddeus and in the prayer, it says I honor you with special affection and devotion. I am unsure as to how I do this. Second is where can I find a reputable site to find a list of Patron Saints? I use Google and find sites but I am unsure as to if the answers I find are correct. As an example, I am currently looking for the Patron Saint of Patience and also looking for the Patron Saint of Motivation. When I Google this, I get Saint Monica of Hippo and Saint Cyprian for being the Saints for patience and then for the Patron Saint of motivation, I am unable to find anything. Any and all help will be so greatly appreciated. Thank you all and God Bless

You show devotion by praying their prayers and/or novenas, perhaps sharing what you know about them with others, and including them in your daily prayers.

You might see if EWTN.com has anything about saints that you might be looking for.

Well would you look at that, I have been showing a devotion and didn’t even know of it. Thank you for the advice, it is greatly appreciated.

Sensus Fidelium and its youtube channel have a lot of information about Saints, so does Catholic.org and their youtube channel.

Pray to God for help in having a devotion to saints. Pray to saints, honor them, and learn about them. When possible, their relics can be honored. I pray to saints with formal, written prayers, and also just informally (but, of course, respectfully). If your Church has statues of saints you could sometimes pray there. Also, if you can, you could go to Mass on saints’ feast days. God bless and Mary keep you.

Thank you for the information and advice Bill6, I truly appreciate it.

Thank you for the reply Tis_Bearself. How do you know that Saint Monica is a Patron Saint of Patience? On the two links you share above, it does not show that, so I am just wondering how one would know that she is a Patron Saint of Patience?

She is my Confirmation saint from when I was confirmed a few decades ago. I’m familiar with her life story. She is well known in the Church as a model of patience. Wikipedia and other sources list her as a patron saint of patience, as do many other books about saints.

She patiently bore her pagan husband’s bad temper and violent moods and also was patient with her mother-in-law who didn’t like her and was abusive for years. She also patiently prayed for many years for the conversion of her husband and the return to the faith of her sinful son (St. Augustine, who became one of the most famous theologians of the Church). Her prayers were eventually answered.

Here’s her Wikipedia patron saint page (they have a whole archive of “patron” pages for saints):

There are other saints in the Church who were also very patient with bad situations; St. Rita of Cascia, who also had an abusive, violent marriage and then later was mistreated by her fellow nuns in a convent, is another who is considered a patron saint of patience. Often there are multiple patron saints for one particular thing. For example, St. Monica and St. Rita are both patrons of patience and of abused wives. St. Joseph and St. Cajetan are both patrons of those seeking employment. St. Denis and St. Gemma Galgani are both patrons of headache/ migraine sufferers. Etc.

A couple more questions for you Tis_Bearself, First, would you perchance know a prayer to St. Monica that my daughter could pray to gain more patience (She’s 12), and any chance you may also know who the Patron Saint for motivation would be?

If your daughter is 12, I recommend the good ol, "God, give me patience, but hurry. St. Monica, pray for me please. "
Prayers don’t have to be super formal. The saints are okay with very short requests for intercession. When one is more advanced in prayer then one might seek out longer and more formal devotions…or one might just spend more time talking to their favorite saint in informal, mental prayer.

As for a patron saint of “motivation”, it depends on what one is trying to get motivated to do. I would suggest that one then pick a saint who was motivated towards the specific activity. Like, if you want to get motivated to exercise more, pick a patron saint of athletics. If you want to get motivated to pray more, then pick a saint known for praying a lot. Etc.

If you just want a saint for general motivation, St. Francis de Sales is a good choice, or any of the Apostles. They were all very busy and motivated to do many things for the glory of God.

Our Blessed Mother…
I pray thru Her. She had shown her love for me many times

St Theresa of Avila has chose me

Pray to Anthony of Padua to help you find a Saint! 😂 it’s funny because he is the patron saint of lost souls and objects (among many other things) but by asking him to help you find a saint would in itself be a devotion to St Anthony. But seriously you can’t go wrong with the Evangelical Doctor.
