How to Survive Secular Totalitarianism

The problem isn’t people having a different religion than us, the problem is when that secularism pushes changes in the Goverment that are against Christianity in grave matters, like legalizing abortion/euthanasia/death penalty or limiting the freedom of speech in religious topics.

Sometimes, even if we tolerate and “love” (hopefuly) people with other opinions, we disagree in things so basic and important that it’s impossible to reconcile our ideas in pluralism. Then the only solution is persuasion or (in the worst of cases) martyrdom.
And I must say that I hope the government is happy to make martyrs of those that would use violence to push their religious views on others.

I think this is the tyranny motivating those who influence government to mimic their religious or cryptoreligious views.

Secularists aren’t the totalitarians in this case. The religious are.

This is straight out of the Anarchist manifesto of the late 1960s. “We’ll burn this country down if we have to!” And “Off the pigs!” Or Kill the police. Why? They will stop you from buying illegal drugs. Anarchy is no way to live.

I don’t live in anarchist reality.
So the choice is a kind of hidden Catholic theocracy vs anarchy?

False dichotomy, much?

I’ve never spoken about violence. Look at the first catholic martyrs, they weren’t violent.

Discuss as you see fit.
Elephants have to be eaten one bite at a time.

Aside from that, ditching chemical contraceptives is becoming more popular as the “natural, sustainable and organic” crowd becomes larger. So that’s progress.

All you need is a reasonably good sample size. The whole reason the field of statistics was invented was to get good results from relatively small data sets.

I really think a basic statistics should be required for graduating from high school.

I know statistics, I am a chemist. That still doesn’t explain how you can safely study clandestine abortion trusting in the samples.

When people use this argument I always think: How do you make statistics about an illegal thing? How do you know when your sample is large enough to represent all the (statistical) population?
It’s not illegal in most countries.Plus see above.

The same way you study prostitution and illicit drug use. You get a sample size sufficiently representative. It need only be a small fraction of the total number of users. If you’re a chemist then this should be familiar to you.

You’re not eating the elephant. The elephant is eating you. And there’s a simple solution: Better and more widely available contraception.

Imagine if your friendly neighbourhood mad scientist let loose a virus that rendered all women sterile. Except that there was a pill they could take that would enable them to conceive. It would effectively reverse the current situation. Acceptable or not?

If you want abortion stats for the US, use Pew or Gallup.

Anything else auto-invites the need for disclaimer.

I was talking about the statistics about illegal abortion before it became legal, used to say that the rate declined when it became legal.

We have faith. Abortion will be illegal once more. It will take a fight, but everything we do is a fight. There have been good strides made in the United States to make abortion illegal once more. Keep praying. It will happen.

Jane Roe in Roe v Wade never got an abortion. Her real name is Norma McCorvey. She became actively pro-life. I remember watching TV in 1972 and heard this nice lady who told viewers that abortion was necessary. The America public was lied to. The following tells people how things actually happened:

That’s the thing though. Nationwide, abortion was never illegal. There was always some place you could get one and the worst punishment you’d face would be the folks who knew about it likely turning their noses up at you. ’

Find another issue - maybe more than one. Make your vote actually count.

Abortion is never going to be illegal nationwide.

That is all right. God’s will be done. And we will fight the fight.

And again, providing you have a representative samples, something like illegal abortions is amenable to statistical analysis.
