ok. My dad doesn’t go to church at all and we are not sure he has ever been baptized. We talk about the faith some, but it is still hard. He is very set in his ways. He has agreed to come with us to see Father Corapi soon and I am looking for ideas on how to reach him before and after this so that we make the most of this.
Any ideas out there? TIA

Bless you in your effort to save your father’s soul. 🙂 The best thing you can do is pray hard for your dad’s conversion. Continue to talk when the time presents itself, but be careful not to force the issue as that will make things worse. These things have to work in His time, not ours. Believe me - it can make you crazy, but trust that God has your father in mind. Use the saints, like St. Monica who waited 14 years for the conversion of her son, St. Augustine. Like St. Monica, your patience will be rewarded.

The best time to pray for something like this is after communion and/or in front of the Eucharist during adoration. Be sure to try to stay in a state of grace and offer many sacrifices for your intention.

Trust in the Lord and live the best possible example for your father! Good luck. 👍

My father was baptized in 1924 but never actually went to church from the time I was born. He bacame Catholic at the age of 77 in 2001,
He has since gone to our Lord, so do not fret. It is never too late for your father. Just stay in prayer in this matter.

Go with God!

I think the bottom line is the conversion will be the result of the Holy Spirit working in your father once he opens just a crack. As a result, I pray that I will follow His will and be a tool for conversion.

I know I need to be careful and not allow myself to start feeling that it’s my success or my failure involved; that’s it my job to convert him. When I drop this “personal responsibility” it helps my patience and strengthens my faith.

Hope I’m helping some too.

Good advice everyone. I am praying and offering sacrifices for him. I know that God is in charge because the fact that he is going to see Father Corapi is amazing in itself. I will keep praying and try to keep myself out of it. That personal responsibility thing is so TRUE!

God bless,
Mum :tiphat:

I commend your concern and efort for yoyr father. I personaly have just trusted God to put the rite words in my mouth. MY advise is to just trust in God and he will say and do things thrue you. But it also would’nt hurt to brush up on church teachig and what your faith believes and why.

You’re seeing Fr. Corapi speak?

First: jealous!!!

Second: Fr. Corapi should be enough to get him:-p

Don’t force him. Instead, reassure him of your constant love. In time he will appreciate what your religion has done for both you and for him and it will be easier for him to understand your ways.

Keep in mind also, that every individual must be permitted to preserve some part of himself for himself. After all, each of us is an individual and distinct souls with a given unique character. It can be damaging to try to change the entire character of a soul. All of us have both bad and good qualities and each person has been put on this earth for the purpose of trying to understand and help out the other in his own unique way.

Attempting to change an apple to a peach can be not only frustrating but also highly disappointing. The more you appreciate his good qualities, the more he will appreciate yours and in no time this will not be an issue.
