that was funny. i’m not sure why people are offended by the picture.

You know, though, speaking strictly from a driving safety standpoint, I think it’s most unwise to have any unnecessary obstruction in the windshield, or anywhere within my visual field. I even clip my hair back from my face when I’m driving.

I keep a rosary in my car, but it’s tucked into a dashboard compartment (not dangling in my view.) I do like having it in the car with me for some inexplicable reason that I haven’t sorted out enough to articulate. But other than a “please, Lord, let me get through this snowstorm–traffic jam–what have you safely,” or a “God bless that yahoo who just cut me off,” I don’t pray much in the car! I don’t think it’s appropriate, from either a spiritual standpoint or a highway safety standpoint, to pray the Rosary behind the wheel, at least not in the way the Rosary SHOULD be prayed (with meditation.)

By the way, a priest friend of mine tells me that when he is driving and dealing with another motorist who is suffering from road rage (who gives him what he calls the Hawaiian Good Luck Sign,) he counters with the Sign of the Cross. He tells me that the reactions he gets from this are pretty funny when the other driver realizes that he just flipped off a priest! He figures that if the shock of that gets the other guy to drive in a more law-abiding way, it’s a real blessing!

My husband is a truck driver, and the stuff that he sees in front windshields that would pose a safety hazard could fill a book in number and variety. His favorite “dangling items” are the native American dreamcatchers–the superstition is that you’re supposed to hang them next to your bed to prevent nightmares. My husband wonders if the presence of a dreamcatcher means that the driver is used to sleeping behind the wheel!

I think some might be surprised how many priests pray the rosary while driving. Their time is so limited, that driving allows some time for prayer.

Why would anyone have a Rosary dangling from their car mirror? You might be trying to seem pious (that is prideful) or you may just truly enjoy keeping the Rosary next to you but that just doesn’t seem very safe to me. What if there is a crash in front of you and you have to stop abruptly? The Rosary will fly off the car mirror and may end up choking you if it lands on you stopping from a high speed. Then another car might crash into you and once you get hit by that car you will go flying and so will that Rosary too. It might end up strangling you to death before the paramedics can even arrive on the scene. The Crucifix might also whip you in the face or get in your eyes if you roll the window down on a windy day so be weary of that.

Be weary of any potholes or animal crossing zones as that Rosary may also go flying when you try to dodge the animal and it may go flying out the car, out of your rolled-down window and end up slicing off an animal’s head if you’re going too fast. The Rosary is a powerful weapon.

If it’s strong enough to keep the devil at bay, it can certainly do some pretty harsh damage. You have been warned.
Or you could be sensible and not keep it too loose so that you will get choked or smacked in the eye?

Honestly, some people can’t think

LOL! I have a dreamcatcher in my car… But we’ve got some natives in the family… Oh, HOW I WISH I could sleep while I drive… but nah… they’re just an artsy thing!

Mine is in the little cubby right below my radio. I think I like it there in case I’m in an accident, so people will know to call a priest if I’m terminal 🤷…Just seeing it sometimes reminds me to turn down the radio and pray.

Our priest has a rosary hanging from his rear view mirror. I have a one decade one hanging from mine. No way could that thing fit around my neck. I have it there to remind me to pray.

runwaymodel thanks for the smile. 🙂 That picture is a good reminder to make sure that we never drive faster than our guardian angel can fly.
