So as I’m progressing on my belief journey or gamble or whatever you want to call it, I’m trying to go to confession regularly. How do I tell if I am sincerely sorry if what I experience is not an emotion but rather an understanding that if God exists then I am hindering my relationship and sinning against him? But I don’t feel like an aversion to the sin?

But even if I am split 50/50 on whether he exists does that mean I can still be sincere? Can it still be sincere if I sin knowing there’s confession?

True sorrow is like a multi-faceted jewel. It may involve many motives for seeking reconciliation with God. All are good, even if imperfect.

Thank you so much! Hope you are having an amazing day! You have no idea how much I appreciate all your help!

Dayum. You remind me so much of myself. Feel free to PM sometime.

In confession, if you’re just confessing to avoid hell that’s fine. God doesn’t care that you’re still split, He forgives you all the same. As long as you’re trying to not sin, He forgives you.

You have no idea how much I appreciate the response! Thank you!

No problem. It’s great that you’re going to confession and recieving God’s graces!

The Old Colonel commends you, soldier! Keep up the good work! Hoorah!

Maybe enroll in some classes or ask the pastor to recommend a prayer partner you can discuss things with, Also read Catholicism for dummies. Don’t be insulted by the title it’s actually an easy read and VERY thorough and well written. Even cradle Catholics are not born with all the knowledge about everything, We learn about the faith and God every day of our lives, be at peace.

Of course you can be sincere , even with doubts about God’s existence. Remember the Apostle Thomas. Jesus said here, put your fingers in my crucifixion wounds so you believe I am resurrected.

Go to confession frequently. It gives us such graces. It restores our yes to God. Our love in God.
