How to tell your parents you want to convert

Based on my conversion from Lutheranism when I was 18 - 20 years old and still living with my parents, I have a few more tips. Don’t be afraid to move slowly and do a lot of listening to both sides. Be prepared for the accusation that a doctrine is “not Biblical” by knowing how to defend each of our beliefs from Scripture. In my case, Lutherans base their theology on “faith alone”, which is clearly contradicted in James, so that’s not too difficult. But there are some other beliefs like Purgatory that require some explanation to demonstrate from the Bible. When I was about 21, I told the bishop that I wanted to become a priest, and he wisely said that I should wait until the enthusiasm of the initial conversion wore off to make sure this was a life-long calling. Now I’m married with 5 children. Becoming Catholic was the most profound moment of my life, but it was only a start. The rest of my life since then has built on that foundation, and I just try to follow His will one day at a time.

I suggest you to go step by step… Before to think about the seminary, first you have to announce your conversion to your parents, family…

First pray, Trust strongly in God and don/t be afraid. Just go and talk with your parent and leave god make the rest in you life and you will see all will be fine with your parents.

Second, start to go to the mass, to have a parish life to see how it is. Take engagement in catholic groups…

Try to speak and share your experience with another christians. And don’t forget that a spiritual Director will be a need for you.
