The Romans knew that Christians could not curse God. They would even use the scripture passage that says, only in the Holy Spirit can a person say “Jesus is Lord!” When we claim Jesus as Lord, the evil spirit has no choice but to flee.
Christ said, “My sheep know my voice.” This is true. The closer a person is to Christ, the more exactly the evil one will try to imitate the voice of the Beloved. As a child knows his or her mother’s voice, the one who is close to God is not fooled. If he or she has the Charismatic gift of tongues, this gift may even be employed to separate the true from the false.
An interesting study blindfolding mothers and children found a 100% accuracy between a child’s ability to recognize his/her mother. So it is with the ability for sheep (us Christians) to recognize Christ when we hear His voice. We will follow no other.
God will not give a command that is contrary to Scripture, the Magisterium, or personal circumstances of life. For example, God does not ask a man to abandon wife and family to preach in South Africa. Such would be contary to the Sacrament of Matrimony.
There is a peace that surrounds a decision when through obedience to God that is lacking when led astray by divergent voices. As it is written, God commands no man to sin.
Note the uneasiness until the decision is made, and the peace that follows. Many of us have faced situations that do not appear black and white on the surface. it is not our place to explain the decisions we make. For a friend it is not necessary. For an adversary, an explanation will never suffice. We are called to obedience through faith in Christ. At that very moment, we are not concerned about results, or the future. We know only that we are pleasing God.
