It might sound like a simpl/silly question, but on a practical sense, when you pray, how do you then trust Jesus to help you?

I am becoming a bit doubtful and “jaded” as I have prayed many times before and have received no assistance from God.
I should mention that the prayers were for serious need and not selfish or silly requests.
It’s a bit hard to trust due to my past experiences of being “let down”.
I’m even question if God is all manmde

Sorry for the typos-I am finding the new forum hard to adjust to.

I’m in a very bad place with my health, doctors arn’t helping, and prayer isn’t either and I seem to be “ignored” by God-either that or he’s not real or won’t help me.
I’m in quite a hopeless situation.

I don’t even know how you trust Jesus-ie-:is this trust a grace from God or is it something that you must “conjure” with your own mind?

Rozellelily It’s sad to know that you are struggling and that your health is bad.
I don’t know all the ramifications and consequences, so can’t comment on that.
I’s hard when your doctor doesn’t know how to help you.
I’ll pray that you can find helpful medical diagnosis and treatment soon

The difficult thing is that the challenges of ill health and pain, and uncertainty, are sometimes part of our spiritual journey.

Our Mother, had to face the challenges of life no less than ourselves.
I don’t know if Jesus’ Mother suffered ill-health, but she did suffer. She could only “ponder these things in her heart” at times, needing faith as much as we do. Not a lot was easy for her. She accepted to be mother of the Savior, when if Joseph hadn’t accepted her , she would have been stoned to death in her culture. She had to travel over rough road wobbling on a donkey at a late stage of her pregnancy, then gave birth in a stable, and had only a food trough in which to place her Son. Next thing, Herod determined to murder all the infant boys in Bethlehem, simply to murder her Child. This circumstance would have broken her heart, knowing mothers were suffering that their were so cruelly being murdered on account of her own Boy.
She and Joseph fled to Egypt as refugees, where they ad to find shelter, Joseph had to find work, and they both had to do all this in a foreign culture in a foreign language.

When Jesus went missing, the most notable amber alert of all time, Joseph and Mary sought him with anxiety for three days, only to find Him beginning His ministry long before time.
When Jesus grew up, she knew difficult time lay ahead. The Angel who had given the invitation for her to be Mother of the Savior had warned her that "a sword would pierce her soul.
And Jesus Himself had frustrations and disappointments, and was finally betrayed, tortured, and murdered…for our sake the cost of our salvation.

Illness was part of the human and spiritual journey of many of the Saints. St Therese of Lisieux died of a painful abdominal illness. Her mother, Saint Zellie Martin, died of breast cancer, her father, Saint Louis Martin, suffered some kind of dementia at the end.
Saint Mary MacKillop suffered strokes towards the end, Saint Bernadette was ‘a living wound’.

It is all part of the human condition, and because we don’t ultimately belong on earth.
It’s how we deal with these things that matter, whether we despair, of whether we trust in God and offer our ailments and miseries along with Christ’s, in reparation for the huge deluge of sin in this world, praying the while for the salvation of so many souls who do not love God, and those who barely love other people, and may be in danger of being lost if we do not carry our crosses.

I’m often not sure what I’ll write, and I didn’t mean to write such difficult stuff. Despite all this, I really do feel for you

Be encouraged, for “suffering is part of your training” as God’s children, but later “it bears fruit in peace and goodness.” [Hebrews 12:7, 11]

The Lord God will wipe away the tears from every cheek; He will take away His people’s shame everywhere on earth.” [Isaiah 25:8]

I tell you solemnly, you will be weeping and wailing while the world will rejoice; you will be sorrowful, but your sorrow will turn into joy.” [John 16:20]

“What we suffer in this life can never be compared to the glory, as yet unrevealed, which is waiting for us. The whole of creation is eagerly waiting for God to reveal His children … creation still retains the hope of being freed, like us, from its slavery to decadence, to enjoy the same freedom and glory as the children of God. From the beginning till now the entire creation has been groaning…we too groan inwardly as we wait for our bodies to be set free.” [Romans 8:18-25]

“We carry with us in our body the death of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus, too, may be seen in our body. Indeed, while we are still alive, we are consigned to our death every day for the sake of Jesus, so that in our mortal flesh the life of Jesus may be openly shown.” [Corinthians 6:10-11]

copied from my personal journal
Saint Pio, an extraordinary saint of last century has much to teach about the purpose of suffering in our lives lives.

" Padre suffered continually for souls and was known to say—“If you knew the value of suffering, you would never give it up.” Nevertheless, he prayed for healing for others, and advised anyone in their difficulties to seek divine assistance. “It is not a loss of patience if one asks Jesus to take away pain, when this becomes insupportable to us and beyond our strength, nor does one lose the merit of the suffering which is offered, by asking this of God.”

“Pray that God will console you when you feel the burden of the Cross, for in doing so you are not acting against the will of God, but you are placing yourself beside the Son of God who asked His Father during the Agony in the Garden to send Him some relief. But if He is not willing to give it, be ready to pronounce the same ‘fiat’ that Jesus did.” “When least you are expecting to be liberated, Jesus, who cannot bear to keep you long in affliction, will come and relieve and comfort you, giving you new courage.”

“He is the Father of all; He is so in a very special manner for the unhappy.” “The Cross will not crush you; if its weight makes you stagger, its power will also sustain you.” “What does it matter whether Jesus wishes to guide you to heaven by the way of the desert or by the fields, so long as you get there by one way or the other? Put away excessive worrying which results from trials by which the good Lord has desired to test you; and if this is not possible resign yourself to the divine will.”

“The spirit of God is always a spirit of peace, and in the case of grave sin, it makes us feel a tranquil sorrow, humble, confident, and this is due to His mercy. The spirit of the demon, on the contrary, makes us in our sorrow feel something like anger against ourselves, whereas our first charity must be towards ourselves. So, if certain thoughts agitate you…Such agitation comes from the devil.” “Walk with simplicity in the way of the Lord and do not torment your spirit.”

“Each soul…is a stone destined to build up the eternal edifice…it has to be polished with the blows of hammer and chisel…these hits of the chisel are the shadows, the fears, the temptations, the afflictions of the spirit, the spiritual tremors with some aroma of desolation, and also physical illness.”

“Be certain that the more a soul loves God, the less he feels it…God is incomprehensible…so that the more a soul enters into the love of this Supreme Good…this sentiment of love towards Him seems to diminish, to the point of seeming to love Him not at all…Say rather that you love, and that you wish to love with a perfect and consummate love. This good cannot be obtained in its completion except in the next life!”

Padre Pio wrote, “If I know that a person is afflicted in mind and body, what would I not do to see him freed from his ills, I would willingly take on all his afflictions in order to see him freed, giving up in his favour… the fruits of such suffering if the Lord would permit me.” [Letters 1, no. 184]

I know it’s really discouraging when praying from the depths of the heart, but nothing seems to improve.
Praying for you today, that God will answer in a way that you can recognize as loving and helpful.

Unfortunately, sometimes God answers our prayer requests with a “no”. It’s important to always say “if it be Your will”. I remember once wanting to get admitted to a certain selective school very badly and a priest in Confession saying, “If God wants you in that school, He will put you there.” When it’s health related it’s even worse because if you don’t feel better, it’s easy to feel that God is ignoring you, does not care, or even wants you to suffer, and these are hard things to get one’s mind around. See also the Book of Job, or the story of Servant of God Rhoda Wise.

Suffering isn’t a picnic. I feel for you and will pray for you. Meanwhile, perhaps try telling God that if all this burden on you is His will, that he please give you the grace to bear it, but if there is a way to let this burden pass off you, then you would please ask Him to remove it. Then just be quiet in yourself and listen. You might also try praying “Jesus, I trust in You” a few times a day as an affirmation, and you will likely find yourself trusting Him more as affirmations tend to help us with stuff like that.

God bless you and give you the grace to trust Him, in Jesus’ name. I too found it hard to trust at least once but I got past it. Would rather not go into specifics here but it was the biggest crisis of faith I ever had.

I’m a firm believer that God always hears our prayers. As humans, I also believe that we are very (name removed by moderator)atient in nature…guilty as charged! Over the years I have witnessed God’s goodness in so many ways and I have learned that just because we do not get what we pray for, doesn’t mean we shouldn’t trust Jesus/God. We need to have faith that God provides us just what we need when we need it. I often think of that song by Garth Brooks, “Unanswered Prayers”. There is so much truth to that song!! God knows BEST!
