What you will need
  1. A vegan friend who has no problem with the dismemberment of human children but is horrified at the cruelty of the processing of animals for food. If you don’t know people who think like this, count your blessings. I know many.
  2. A hammer.
  3. Chicken eggs.
My friend came over one day and I was putzing around in the backyard and we were chatting and she started in with trying to dissuade me from some pro-life work I was doing ‘It’s not a human being. It’s JUST a fertilized egg.’ talk.
I’d heard this song and dance enough before (heck I SAID that song and dance before!) and I’d had it.
I said ‘Oh, I’m growing my flock. My new chicken eggs have arrived, Would you like to see them?’
This, of course was a lie. I don’t get chicken eggs, I get live chicks, and they weren’t coming for another couple of days. So, I went inside grabbed the carton of eggs from the fridge and put them in a shoebox and put some washcloths around them. (This, by the way, is NOT how you hatch eggs OR take care of new chicks!)
So, I brought them outside and I started explaining how long it would take for them to hatch, and blah blah blah. I even ‘showed’ her in the light how you could see the chicken moving inside the egg. (Again, no real chickens were harmed during this incident. What was ‘moving’ was a shadow behind the egg, but people don’t know the first thing about chickens.)
Then I took one of the eggs and said, ‘But it turns out it’s a really inconvenient time for me to raise chickens now.’ and BAM! down went the hammer on the first egg.
She screamed ‘WHAT ARE YOU DOING?’
‘It’s not the right time for me to raise chickens. I’ve got way too much going on.’
BAM! Another egg splattered.
‘You can’t JUST KILL THEM!!’
‘Hon, these aren’t CHICKENS. They’re just embryos. Don’t worry.’
BAM!
‘No, there’s a LIVE CHICKEN in there! I even saw it move! How can you kill it? Get AWAY from them!’
At this, she grabbed my box away from me and lectured me on how this killing was senseless, these chicks didn’t deserve to die just because it was a bad time for me, and couldn’t I just find someone else to take the chicks?
It was SO pro-life it was eerie. Except instead of people was the word ‘chicken’. Other than that, it was pretty much exactly the same rhetoric.
‘So, when it’s a CHICKEN embryo, it’s a live chicken worthy of protection, but when it’s a human embryo, it’s, what, exactly?’
She started defending her stance again, saying ‘That’s different!’ and I said ‘Your words would seem alot more genuine if you weren’t guarding a shoebox of chicken eggs right now. You can put them down. They’re from the grocery store. There’s no chickens in there.’
We talked for a LONG LONG time. I showed her some pictures. Some not-so-nice Hodari baby pictures. And some nice early ultrasound pictures.
Though I don’t expect I will see her praying at an abortion clinic anytime soon, she’s DEFINITELY pro-life now.
🙂
I just thought I’d share.

that is so right on. may our Lord shower you with His Grace. you are a warrior!!!

Very good (but you should have done it without telling a lie!!! It is not right to do evil even for a good intent!)

That wasn’t Lying - That was TEACHING. :D:p

There are times when saying things that are not expressly true is not lying.
I do it all the time with my wife who has Alzheimers. You tell them what they want to hear or whatever calms them and makes them happy.

The difference in both cases is that the intent is not evil I don’t tell my wife untruths to harm or “bear false witness” and neither did the OP.
He used a method that put his friend in the proper frame of mind to accept the teaching.

rwillenborg,
That is a great story.
The Holy Spirit was definitely working with you that day.👍👍

Actually I don’t think that one would need to limit themselves to “vegens” on this. Most people who eat meat really don’t want to think about where that meat comes from or what happens in the whole process of farm to table.
I suspect that if this were used on most “Pro-Choice” meat eaters they would have similar reactions to your friend.

I wonder if it could be adapted to other circumstances.

Peace
James

It’s too bad you didn’t get that on camera.😃
I bet If you had recorded it and replayed it so she could hear what she was saying about the chicken eggs being alive, she would have been able to see how what she was saying was so pro-life.

Good work 👍

Cool story! As a vegan myself, I’ve always thought it was sort of inconsistent to be an ethical vegan and be pro-choice.

I so agree! Where we used to live there was a radio show that would invite PETA on, and they always got the question about abortion. And they always fudged.

It was quite obvious that they were pro-abortion, but they could see the inconsistency.

I was in a foul mood the other day while reading about the abortion funding debate for the current health care legislation, and this wicked idea came to me.

Since the abortion industry is a business, it probably has a trade group. What if this trade group sponsored an ad campaign to increase demand for its services:
  • One picture of a baby holding a toy - the caption “This is a missed profit opportunity.”
  • Another picture of a 10-year-old girl - “In only 10 years, she has wasted 3 million gallons of water, contributed 2,000 tons of C02 to the atmosphere, and added 15 tons of garbage to the landfills. Stop the humans - save the planet.”
  • A picture of a brooding, sad, 15-year-old. “Stop worrying about your future - we can take care of that for you! Mom and Dad will never find out.”
  • A picture of an obese and unattractive person “Too many people, eating too much. Why let it go on?”
  • A photo of an impoverished child in Africa “He has to starve because you want more kids. How selfish is that?”
After pondering these for a few minutes, I was so upset by the thoughts that I picked up my sleeping daughter and cuddled her in the rocking chair for a good hour.

I was on the fence on abortion - why should Constitutional Law be subverted to Canon Law, etc? - until we found out we were expecting. Especially after I felt our Jenna move for the first time, I just could not conceive of how someone could kill a child. This precious little girl means everything to my wife and I, and some of my best days start off with her waking up a little too early and needing to be cuddled to finish her snoozing, so she gets to snuggle with dad. I can’t sleep when I’m holding her, but I don’t want to. She’ll never be this little again, and just when I think I can’t love her any more tomorrow than I do today, tomorrow comes and I find my heart is even more full of love for my sweet little one.

I had an Idea of a Pro-Life Poster/Billboard.

Side by Side are two pictures.
On the Left, a 10 Week Old Fetus, On the Right a 6 month Old Smiling Baby
First Line - In the Top center - Try To Deny It
Above the Fetus and baby is written, “In one year This Will become This”
Below the Pictures is written, “Abort This and you kill This”

I think it would be effective.

Brillently inspiried! You know what they say about training a mule, first you have to get it’s attention…

awesome, and so true! I know TOO many people that are like that!

A creative demonstration - plus no child was harmed during the process.

Have you talked to your friend since? Her response after taking time to reflect on it would be interesting?

God bless

You know what they say. You’ve got to break few eggs to make an omlette!

/Bad joke

Interesting story, thanks! 🙂

I have to wonder…those of you who say you know so many people like the person in the OP…where do you live that you know so many vegans? I am vegan, and have lived in many places, and personally know in real life exactly 2 other vegans (one who is pro-life like me). I shop at stores that sell specialty foods, eat at restaurants that serve vegan dishes, and still rarely get to meet another vegan. I would love to know more vegans in real life, then I could get some good ideas for what to make for the big holiday dinner!
