Hi,
I want to understand Buddha and his philosophy and how it differs from Catholic teaching. Do you know of any good books or websites or whatnot, that would help me understand Buddhism from a Catholic perspective as well as how Buddhists themselves think about their own philosophy and principles?

There are a few other things to understand about Buddhistism…there are a few different sects or castes of Buddhistism. There were also many, many men whom were called Buddha, before and after, the Buddha, we are all aware of…Buddha means “enlightened one”.
The current caste of Mayavada philosophy, is atheism, as begun by Sankaracarya, and IS a compromise with true Buddhist philosophy.
According to Mayavada philosophy there actually is no GOD or if GOD exists, he is impersonal and all-pervading and can therefore be imagined in any form.
While Buddhistism was spreading, the Vedic culture was stopped both in India and other places, therefore, since Sankaracarya’s only aim was to drive away this popular Buddha’s system of philosophy, he introduced the system called Mayavada.
Sankaracarya taught that the Absolute Truth is impersonal, and thus denied the existence of GOD.
This conclusion is not in accord with the Vedic literature, and not the original truth about Buddhistism…you can say, Buddhistism became perverted, changed, twisted or interpreted by Sankaracarya, in the same manner that all religions are changed or perverted, to become different than its original words, messages and purposes. .
