How to unite our suffering to the cross of Christ? Am I doing it right?

I read that if you accept your suffering and unite it to Christ in the cross, you can shorten your time in purgatory.

I try to unite my suffering to the cross by mentally saying “God, I offer my suffering to you”. Is it enough?

Sometime the suffering is so intense I start crying, if I cry does it mean I failed to unite the suffering to the Cross?

Offering your suffering to God is a wonderful way to sanctify it. Crying does not reduce its power in any way. You’re doing well.

Jesus said “Pick up your cross and follow me”, if you cry it does not mean you failed in any way.
You can also offer up your sufferings for the souls in Purgatory. Especially those who don’t have any one who can pray for them.

I need to choose what to offer up the suffering or can I offer my suffering to many things at once?

You can offer your suffering for as many things as you like. My favorite way of offering anything is to offer it to the Blessed Mother to use wherever it is needed, maybe with one specific thing in mind.

I offer it up for all souls in need unless I have a specific need/reason.

I think you are doing it right. As long as you try not to complain in a way that makes life harder for those around you and you tell God you want to offer it up, there can be a lot of merit in that

Remember too that all things can be offered to God for our salvation and that of others. Say a Morning Offering and you’ve got everything covered for the day. And never worry about emotions like crying or fear or discouragement. God reads the will. Emotions come and go and are not always in our control.

Oh my Jesus, through the Immaculate Heart of Mary, I offer you my prayers, works, joys, and sufferings of this day, in union with the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, in atonement for my sins and those of all others, and for the intentions of your Sacred Heart and the Immaculate Heart of Mary.

Just say I offer this up for the Holy souls. It’s the best thing you can do to use those awful feelings. The evil one hates it too

It can. If you prayed for me in Purgatory, I went to Heaven, and you went to Purgatory, I would certainly pray for you. It can also help with your sanctification here on Earth, which would reduce your time in Purgatory.
