Does anyone know how to use Biblia Clerus to access commentaries? So far the only thing I know is how to use the Bible but have no idea where to find the commentaries. Thanks!

If you make it to the page that contains the Bible text of the passage you are interested in, then access the commentaries by clicking on the first small rectangular button (Please Note: This uploaded content is no longer available.) at the bottom right of the Bible passage.

Links to the various references that cite your Bible passage will appear in the column on the left side of the page.

In my case I have a split screen (top/bottom) and when I choose a passage from the Bible it shows up in the top portion of the screen and all the cross references for that passage come up in a panel on the right side…Essentials, Fathers, Magisterium, etc. If I click on one of the cross references, the text for that particular reference shows up in the bottom portion of the split screen.

I don’t think I set it up that way, I think that is how it always was but I like it.

Thanks!! Do you have the software downloaded? I’m wondering where could I find it in the software.

When I downloaded it and opened it, I found that the program’s display is divided into three sections or what I’ll call windows. The upper half of the display contains two windows: a large window on the left or what I’ll call the Bible Text window, in which the Bible text of an entire book of the Bible is displayed at one time, and a smaller window on the right or what I’ll call the List of Available Commentaries window, in which a list of available writings that cite a particular verse or passage is displayed. Once a writing is selected, the text of the writing is displayed in the window at the bottom half of the display or what I’ll call the Commentary Text window.

Unless you are interested in a verse in the default book, Genesis, use the “Index” button in the upper left corner (second line) of the main display to select the book of the Bible and then the chapter within that book you are interested in. Once you get the desired chapter displayed in the Bible Text window, scroll down until the desired verse appears at the top of the Bible Text window or, in the case of verses near the end of the book, as near to the top of the Bible Text window as possible. A list of the writings that cite the verse or passage will appear in the List of Commentaries window on the right. Scroll down the list of writings until you find the one you want to look at and click on it. The text of the selected writing, at the citation, should appear in the Commentary Text window in the bottom half of the display.

I never downloaded it but I look at it online, just as I do with other sites such as Bible Hub, Bible Gateway, and Study Light. Am I missing anything? Do you find that the downloadable version gives you something extra, that the online version doesn’t?

Yes, Biblia Clerus is a helpful website from the Vatican.

Link (visible): Bibliaclerus

Screenshot below shows a snippet of the commentaries for Philippians 1:3-11. If you accessed this and scrolled down, then you would see more.

I guess I should add that I am using the downloaded version.

I think the material available is the same but it seems the downloadable version gives you the ability to set it up to be able to see scripture and commentary on one page (split screen). I don’t see where you can set it up like that on the website.

Thank you, @yankeesouth!

In practice, Bible Hub is the site I go to most often, because it’s quick and easy to find each verse in interlinear format. The drawback, of course, is that it’s a Protestant site and so the deuterocanonicals are missing.
