You stick the wick into another flame, either from a match, lighter or another candle. Once it is ignited (or with flame) then you pull the candle away and set it where you wish.

OP - jesting aside, most of the time candles are lit during prayer and snuffed out at the conclusion. There is no special ritual to it.

Personally, I avoid matches when possible as the smell of brimstone (sulfur in the match) is not known to “elevate the senses” to God. I try to stick with lighters and previously-lit candles.

I have had candles similar to the kind you describe. I even have blessed candles. It is important to use them reverently and not to simply burn them indiscriminately…without thought. Always keep in mind their reference to holiness…even if you need them as a utility in the event of a power outage. May they always illuminate your life and lead you to God’s Graces.
