I frequently watch Fr. Frank Pavone’s program on EWTN: Defending Life, on which he clarifies issues surrounding abortion and outlines ways to end abortion e.g. prayer, side-walk counselling etc.
Regarding voting in elections with a clear conscience, he stresses the following: It does not matter what else a candidate promises: e.g. improvements in education, better roads, better equipped hospitals etc., if the candidate supports abortion don’t vote for them. (It is immoral to vote for such a candidate). This assumes that one candidate is pro-life and one supports abortion.

Father Pavone also addresses another problem: What if all the candidates support abortion?
He says that we should vote for the candidate who is the least abortion minded. As Fr. Frank puts it, the one who will do the least damage.

The last point needs to be read very slowly until the point is understood and so that it can be seen that the two intentions for voting are very different.
We can’t vote for evil, but we can vote for an advancement of the culture of life.
Another well known priest often says to vote for the lesser of the two evils. It is unfortunate that he put it that way.
Fr Frank Pavone’s position is the correct way to look at the matter.
Now for one more point: through Fr Pavone’s programme I have learnt that voting is not compulsory in the USA.
If that is the case it would not be a good thing to say that all the candidates support abortion so I will stay home and won’t vote. You should still go and vote as I have already said, for the candidate who will do the least damage. (This will be a vote for the advancement of the culture of life as already stated.)
In my country it is compulsory to vote. One of my friends “votes” all right. When all the candidates support abortion he scribbles on the ballot paper, making his vote count for nothing. He does this in good faith because he says that he can’t vote for evil. That is true. If he knew and understood the teaching given by Fr Pavone, he could in conscience cast a vote (for the candidate who will do the least damage, which is a vote for the advancement of life.) That kind of vote is moral.
By failing to vote (in the USA) or by screwing up the ballot paper by scribbling on it (in Australia), you would be wasting your vote for the best possible outcome for unborn babies.

Only the first name of the person is needed for the purpose of this novena. Everyone is invited to send names: parents, grandparents, teachers, doctors, aunties, therapists etc.
The novena is held twice every month from: the 1st to the 9th of the Month and from the 10th to the 18th of the month.
(My oldest child received a big healing from autism through prayer).
