He’s an arch-conservative, yes, but is he a Traditionalist Catholic?
I think he’d like to be. But he can’t. He’s got to attend to the spiritual needs of all Catholics, not forgetting the Third World where our rad trad vs left-wing trendy debates are not conducted in the same manner. He’s an arch-conservative, yes, but is he a Traditionalist Catholic?
Yet he did admit to being wrong then.To say that he is arch-conservative is to ignore his entire history. He was a progressive at Vatican 2 and has strongly supported Vatican 2 since then. That is not what I would call an arch-conservative. And given the problems some of those who call themselves Traditionalists have with Vatican 2, I probably would not call him a Traditionalist.
