Matt Barber: Yeah. Well (Laughs), Mr. Amanda Simpson. That’s a mouthful, isn’t it? That’s the reality – this gentleman calls himself “Amanda” – his renamed himself “Amanda,” I guess, after embracing a female gender identity. This person is by all accounts is actually qualified for this position – has a fairly impressive professional career.

The problem is that it seems that he was not so much placed in this position – there are **ostensibly thousands of people of equal or higher qualification that would of fit for this position **as a technical analyst for the Department of Commerce, but by all indications this individual was not appointed so much for his professional credentials as he was for his wardrobe. (Laughs)

Ms Simpson’s qualifications : 20 years as a Test Pilot, 30 years in the Defence and Aerospace industry, qualifications in Physics, Engineering and Business Administration, and Deputy Director in Advanced Technology Development at Raytheon Missile Systems.

Mr Barber is an attorney.

The liberal YWCA recognized Simpson as one of their “Woman on the Move” in 2004, despite the fact that Simpson is still a man. He dresses like a woman and underwent surgical procedures to remove his male sex organs, had fake breasts created and his adam’s apple removed, but he isn’t a woman and never will be. His DNA doesn’t change.

In short, Simpson is a she-male without male sex organs. He is a surgically mutilated man who is pretending to be a woman and pushing a political agenda.

The Commerce Department will now be forced to deal with Simpson’s she-male status in restrooms and whatever shower facilities are available at the department. Real women at Commerce will be forced into uncomfortable restroom situations with Simpson. It is likely that they will be forced into sensitivity training sessions to be taught to accept and affirm Simpson’s blurry and bizarre sexual status.

He is a gender confused individual who has a treatable mental condition known as a Gender Identity Disorder (GID). Individuals with this condition are uncomfortable with their birth sex and feel that they must reject their birth sex and live as the opposite sex. They need psychiatric help, not surgery or public affirmation for a mental illness.

“She-Male” is a highly derogatory term only used in the pornographic film industry.

GID is a treatable condition : but the only effective treatment involves sex reassignment surgery.It’s now been acknowledged by both the American Medical Association and the American Psychological Association, and recently in their latest journal, the American Psychiatric Association that it’s an anatomical problem, not a mental one.

There is a significant debate as to how it is to be removed from the manual of psychiatric diagnoses, and replaced elsewhere.

Ms Simpson is anatomically indistinguishable from any other woman who has had a radical hysterectomy. While it is most likely her chromosomes are the 46xy ones found in most males, there is about a 1 in 50 chance that they are 47xxy, and a 1 in 100 chance that they are the 46xx ones found in most females. I say “most” because of this:

A 46,XY mother who developed as a normal woman underwent spontaneous puberty, reached menarche, menstruated regularly, experienced two unassisted pregnancies, and gave birth to a 46,XY daughter with complete gonadal dysgenesis.

While there may be over 100 people in the USA with multiple technical qualifications and test pilot experience, all but a handful are in the Astronaut Corps: and none have her Business Administration qualifications.

Mr Barber’s ignorance is understandable: he’s not studied biology since grade school, and his “BSc” didn’t even involve basic calculus. His malice towards someone who has vastly more achievements to their credit is not though.

They ignored the previous appointment of a transsexual man - David Orr began work on December 7 as special assistant to Assistant Secretary of Labor Kathleen Martinez in the Office of Disability Employment Policy at the Department of Labor. Either they don’t realise that the same kind of congenital anomaly happens to guys too, or more likely they don’t think that would sell well. Too normal-looking, it would just confuse people who believe that Amanda must be a porn actor and paedophile, appointed just to destroy the moral fibre of the nation.

Transgender individuals have to endure more ridicule and hostility than gay people do, and gays endure more ridicule and hostility than straight people. Treating a person rudely is never acceptable in my opinion. All people are beloved children of God. Hate, rudeness and mockery are never an option in the family of God. I am not transgender, and I have no reason to feel superior about that fact.

I have a great friend who is transgender. She is a wonderful loving person. I pray that everyone will treat her with love and respect.

To metaphorically explain, its the calm before a storm. People pretend not to care ,but then when they have to deal with it in their own little world they act like their world was turned upsidedown. Believe Iv’e seen and dealt with it a quarter century+.

I thought “Catholic” meant “Universal”. It seems not:

Internally, she says, she always thought of herself as a woman. She believed the church’s view on transgendered people doesn’t acknowledge modern science and that, in time, it would change. And she saw so much good in her new faith that she didn’t want one teaching to push her away.

And so McIntyre got the job at St. Catherine of Siena and asked the priest to use church space for counseling. McIntyre said she never represented her counseling as being done through the church but admits to using the parish name and address on letterhead.

“It wasn’t a secret,” she said. “I was actually proud of it. I was doing a service for folks who were incredibly poor.”

Then, in late September, the bishop’s secretary asked McIntyre to visit the next day. In a 15-minute meeting with the bishop and his attorney, McIntyre was fired.

She cried for a month, feeling as if her church family had rejected her. She tried to get a lawyer, but none would take her case, she said.

McIntyre believes the real issue isn’t about her; it’s about how the church responds to homosexuals and transgendered people. There’s a movement in psychiatric circles to reclassify transgenderism as a medical condition instead of a mental illness, similar to a movement that two decades ago succeeded in removing homosexuality from a list of mental disorders.

“The bishop made it pretty clear that I was not welcome,” McIntyre said. “(So) can I be Catholic, or actually not? That’s what the big deal is.”

This woman was born anatomically female in some respects. Not “psychologically” female, actually, physically, objectively, measurably female. There’s hundreds of scientific papers on the subject now.

Even in the Middle Ages, Peter Cantor, that most conservative of Catholic Theologians recognised what should be done in cases of Intersex:

John Boswell’s Christianity, Social Tolerance, and Homosexuality (Appendix Two) has a translation of Peter Cantor’s De vitio sodomitico — or On Sodomy (d. 1192 AD). Here’s the excerpt on hermaphrodites (or as we’d call them now, intersexuals) were viewed historically by a prominent, Catholic Theologian:​

The Lord formed man from the slime of the earth on the plan of Damascus, later fashioning woman from his rib in Eden. Thus in considering the formation of woman, lest any should believe they would be hermaphrodites, he stated, “Male and female created he them,” as if to say, “There will not be intercourse of men with men or women with women, but only of men with women and vice versa.” For this reason the church allows a hermaphrodite — that is, someone with the organs of both sexes, capable of either active or passive functions — to use the organ by which (s)he is most aroused or the one which (s)he is more susceptible.

On this site, we’ve had the professional opinion of a Canon Lawyer that the Church has yet to come to a decision on this matter: yet Bishops and Priests are unaware of this, and continue to persecute these people because they’re under the impression that the Church doesn’t just condone this persecution, it commands it. The Church remains silent, allowing the cruelty to happen while it deliberates behind closed doors.

At some point in time in the future, the Church will have to apologise for its complicity in ignoring the biological facts, and allowing malice and spite, not love and charity, to dictate how such Catholics are treated.

This Catholic woman, who was charitably running a councelling centre for some of the most despised, distressed, and dispossessed people in the USA, people who are labelled “it” and “thing” and whose very humanity is denied, is someone who wishes her body to be consistent, everything congruent. Female, not part-female.

And for that she is labelled a pariah, called on to repent and deny her actual sex. To engage in grievous sin, just to please the ignorant who have been placed above her in the Church hierarchy. And should she choose not to engage in this sin, to be cast out.

There isn’t one. Everyone assumes there is. Because it’s icky, and upsetting, and confusing. It has to do with sex, therefore is assumed to be associated with lust, un-natural lust, and perversion. No evidence is required. “Everyone knows” this.

Even the lesbians - for some trans women are exclusively attracted to other women - have to actually be gay men trying to trick straight men into having sex with them. Because… well, because their existence is icky and upsetting and confusing.

The closest thing we have to a Church Teaching is the document sent sub secretum to Bishops on the subject, dated 2000, based on (now debunked) data from the 90’s, saying that transsexuality probably has no biological component, that it’s probably a mental illness, but that sex-change surgery can still be licit in extreme cases on the grounds of sheer humanity - they’ll die without it.

But “everyone knows” it’s automatically and always wrong - even bishops who got this document, just haven’t read and understood it. Vaticanese can be a bit hard for some of them to understand.

I just wanted to say I’m not ignoring this thread. I just don’t know what to say that would contribute anything. We balance the pain of the one, I suppose, against the pain of the many, and also open-armed charity against a requirement for holy living. People are commanded to carry their crosses, but also to heal the sick. No wonder we are muddled.

His Holiness doesn’t actually call us vermin, in so many words.

Our very existence does “strike at the biological basis of the difference between the sexes” though. And the recent laws in Europe, North and South America that have granted us basic human rights may be the ones that are viewed as an "attack: in all Creation.

This may not be what the Holy Father intended. It’s certain to be interpreted that way though by many. As was his last utterance on the subject.

When His Holiness was a boy, such sentiments about protecting the ecology were government policy where he lived. Men were Real Men, Women Real Women, anything else was decadent and polluted. Intersexed people were deemed a threat to that ecology then too. As were homosexuals, and various other groups.

Well, THAT should stir things up. Accusing the Pope of calling you vermin should either get them to agree with you or deny that is what it says. What I am curious about, is why you seem to be going out of your way with this one when it appears you have enough evidence gathered to substantiate a case that you are hated.

Ok, you are hated for being a transsexual (assuming you are one). I have sinned and I fall short of the glory of God, probably if not certainly in ways that make whatever sin is associated with transsexuality pale in comparison. I am a dirty rotten sinner. I am saved by the grace of God, and am in no position to throw stones. I am hated, or should be, for what I am and what I do. We all throw masks on so we cannot see each others’ sin. Your offense, if it is one, is to offend against society openly and consistently. I did not say “offend against God.” I cannot judge you, and I will not, if I can help it. Rather I would ask YOU to forgive ME for whatever I have done that has caused you pain.

I rejoice in the grace of God, poured upon my life. May He pour His grace on you, and make you all He intends you to be. Jesus came innocent and they killed Him for it.

There may be differences of degree. But compared with perfection, it’s like the difference between a serial killer who uses an axe, as opposed to a gun, to kill his victims.

If there is an Almighty, he must be terribly disappointed in His children. And sometimes a proud parent too.

Life’s too short to hate. Even those who persecute people like me are so often trying to do what they think is right. I don’t think they’ll be judged harshly - as I hope not to be myself. If I’m given the opportunity, I’d speak up in their defence. Who more qualified to do that than the victim?

And for those who give free rein to their hatred, and use religious belief as an excuse - how can one not feel sorry for them? I could so easily have been like that myself, it’s a capability within all of us. Perhaps I am, and just don’t realise it. I try not to be, but I am fallible, and all too human - even though some deny that I am.

That depends. Some of us look pretty. Some of us look pretty awful. Appearances count for far too much, I’m afraid. That’s why some of us have plastic surgery - not out of feminine vanity - or at least, not completely out of feminine vanity - but to avoid being beaten to a pulp.

If such a person walked into a Church, the reaction might not be very pleasant. They’d be noticed all right, trust me.

This is the same woman. She hasn’t changed one iota. Only the superficialities have changed, the facade. She always was that pretty woman, no matter what she looked like. Yet what a difference the superficial appearance makes! The difference between being treated as a pariah, a freak and a pervert, as opposed to a parishioner. Unless her past is revealed.

Those pictures are from a surgeon’s website by the way, and used with her permission. Rather than stay “woodworked” or “stealth”, she doesn’t advertise her medical history, but she doesn’t keep it a secret either. That puts her in some danger of course. But those photos have helped so many women, some transsexual, some victims of auto accidents or domestic violence, as it gives them hope.

I suppose that since I’m putting up pictures of others, I better put up some of myself. Warts and all. Unretouched. Here’s one taken a few days ago.

The only surgery I’ve had is genital reconstruction. Things were a bit of a mess there.

I’m overweight, plain, short, stumpy, thickset, with arms like “Rosie the Riveter”. But while I’d like to look beautiful, I knew at age 10 that was not my lot in life. I don’t frighten the horses, nor stop clocks. That’s good enough. Any surgery I’d have to make me look pretty, as I’d like to be, would be out of vanity, nothing more.

Here’s how former advisor to the Vatican on sexual matters, Dr Paul McHugh, describes those such as I in a Catholic Religious Journal, “First Things”. See how much you agree.

Those I met after surgery would tell me that the surgery and hormone treatments that had made them “women” had also made them happy and contented. None of these encounters were persuasive, however. The post-surgical subjects struck me as caricatures of women. They wore high heels, copious makeup, and flamboyant clothing; they spoke about how they found themselves able to give vent to their natural inclinations for peace, domesticity, and gentleness—but their large hands, prominent Adam’s apples, and thick facial features were incongruous (and would become more so as they aged).
