Well, mine was okay. I forgot what the first song was but it was half in Latin, which was an extremely unexpected but welcome surprise. The Chreasters were drowned out by the choir and the congregation, thankfully. The homily left a lot to be wanted, but I can’t expect a whole lot of the poor 83 year-old deacon. I was so looking forward to the Roman Canon, but, alas, EP 3 was used. I don’t know why, but this makes me immensely sad. Father invariably botched the Ecce Agnus Dei, he said something like, “This is the Son of Mary, the Son of God, be happy,” or something, at which I fantastically cringed. The recessional was Hark the Herald Angels Sing. Incense was used :D, real frankincense! but only for venerating the altar at the beginning 😦 The worst part was that Father spoke so softly. It was halfway between an EF secreto and an OF loud voice. One or the other please, but not halfway.

So, kind of meh. Not inspiring. It does, however, give me confidence to join the choir to expand their Latin repertoire! You?

Let you know after I get back. This is my second new OF Mass. Too far to drive for the Solemn High Mass at midnight.

It was beautiful!!

The choir, the music selections, the homily and my fellow brothers & sisters in Christ were neither an attraction or detraction,
so my opinions on them are inconsequential.

I received my Lord & Savior in the Eucharist and celebrated His Incarnation! 😃
To me, that’s all that matters!!!

Merry Christmas!!

Things went very well. I don’t want to be too self-serving, but I will say that our first foray into Gregorian Chant on Christmas went well, for seven people (Puer Natus in Bethlehem). The priest used EP1.

Midnight Mass was okay. What matters is that I received Jesus Christ in the Eucharist. (After making a last minute confession a few hours prior to the Mass)

Since I am visiting home, I attended a parish nearby where I grew up.

Music is so loud there that it is unpleasant/impossible to sing since one cannot even hear his own voice or the words over the music.

I really wish they would use the correct words for the Agnus Dei. 😦

Father forgot to open with the sign of the cross…can’t really blame him…after having to celebrate Mass several times today.

The Psalm response from the Mass during the day (“All the ends of the earth…”) (albeit one of my favorite Psalms :D) was used instead of the night Psalm response. Is this allowed? Only half of the Psalm was read, too. And is cutting off part of the reading and/or modifying the words so that they are sung differently allowed?

I’d have to say that in comparison to last year there, it was better. Didn’t have a Christmas pageant/reenactment after the Gospel reading this time…although maybe it was because I didn’t attend the Lifeteen Mass by accident this time.

I just got home from my Midnight mass and it was my first and all I can say is WOW. I actually had a tear in my eye during the Homily at the our Priest pulled out a little card and began to sing, It was Silent Night, The whole church joined in and we all gave him a round of applause. It was so moving. I had to stay afterwards to take a few pics of the decorations and the Manger Scene. I am so glad I am coming Home…😃

Just got home from midnight Mass.

Chanted beautifully, 5 altar boys, incense, just lovely with the amount of reverence. Just beautiful. It was a long Mass, too, which I welcome.

It was a really beautiful Mass as always. I was so happy to celebrate the Word made flesh and receive Him in the Eucharist! The choir was wonderful, and the carol service before Midnight Mass was just great. They did many wonderful selections of traditional ethnic carols, and we sang familiar traditional ones like “Angels, We Have Heard on High”, “Silent Night”, and “Away in a Manger”. I just love singing “O Come, All Ye Faithful” as we welcome the newborn King, and then to end off with the triumphant “Joy to the World”. I have to go back to the 8:30 a.m. Mass later this morning, so I have to settle down and get some sleep. I cannot wait to sing some more!

If we set aside all the music and the clapping at the end for the choir, my midnight Mass was okay. It was presided by the Bishop. I like him. Every time I receive communion from him kneeling he gets a big happy smile on his face. 😃 Given the amount a grief I get from other people for kneeling to receive communion, it’s nice to know my Bishop approves. 👍

Very nice, but too much like a regular Sunday Mass. I know that every Mass pleases Our Lord and we receive his precious body and blood in the Eucharist. Christmas should be more than just beautiful music…there needs to be solemnity and a real acknowledgment of the great love our Savior had for us by humbling Himself to be born as an infant, to ultimately save us.

It was interesting. Well, the actual midnight Mass was lovely; the choir sounded great, Father delivered a pretty standard but nicely done Christmas homily, and incense hung in the air.

What was interesting was that my mother decided to drag the rest of the house along with me- and I’m the only Catholic under this roof! So my very protestant parents, and 3 of my younger siblings came to Mass with me. I guess this is progress- my mom’s pretty anti-Catholic, but she decided to consider this her ‘Christmas church service,’ so they won’t be obligated to attend another, later Christmas service.

Just got home. The mass was beautiful. Really gorgeous polyphony. We then had refreshments afterwards.

Wonderful.

The parish I attended was not my regular parish, because I wanted to be certain there would be incense. There was. (I was actually confirmed in that church, so I am quite familiar with it.)

We had only one cock-up. Monsignor momentarily slipped into the old version of the Creed, for which he apologised during the announcements. Otherwise, it was just about perfect. Homily was standard fare for Christmas, but it was well delivered.

I’m planning to go to my regular Sunday Mass tomorrow morning. We had a big family gathering this Christmas Eve and so I didn’t want to go this year. Solemn High Traditional Latin Midnight Mass is at the FSSP parish, and so that’s definitely on my to-do list for next Christmas.

My late Sunday morning OF Mass is very reverent. The choir sings the Kyrie in Greek, the Gloria, Sanctus, and Angus Dei in Latin. I hope they use incense and the propers for the Mass during the Day. I stopped by the church for confession today, so I do know that they have very beautiful decorations, flowers, and a nativity scene. I’m really looking forward to it.

Merry Christmas!

Wonderful but overcrowded! Which is a good thing for Our Lord but it was a health and safety issue. We attended my sisters parish as it had the Mass we could take our mother (who lives with us) to without it being too late.
There were so many people who were standing along the sides of the church, loads at the back blocking the entrance. It made it very claustrophobic.I myself felt ill so did two of my neices.I was at Mass supporting my elderly disabled mother and a disabled sister who walks with a frame. One of the altar servers fainted and had to be carried out.We gave her water and she was frightened.
At the end of Mass it was really difficult to get out safely.

I am thrilled to see so many people at Mass but it really was a health and safety danger.Perhaps next year Fr will have to ask them to stand outside with speakers relaying the Mass for safety reasons.
Isn’t it wonderful so many people came to Mass though?

Happy Christmas and God bless everyone

I attended Christmas Mass at a minor basilica situated on a hill.

Just the approach to the church is amazing as it is lit up, and can be seen for miles due to the expansive fields surrounding the area. I usually come in the back way through a small country road which brings me right up to the base of the hill.

As usual the parking lot was full so I had to use the lot at the base of the hill and walk up.It’s not really a difficult walk though I am a bit out of shape.

Upon entering the church the choir was waiting in the back for their entrance so all entering with me siddled by this very large group of singers. The church was packed even though it was an hour before mass.

I searchd for an empty pew,but it seemd futile as there were people lined up all along the perimeter on the church. I found a little spot next to a large column which afforded me a somewhat decent view of the altar.I hoped i was not blocking anyone behind me, and as iwas pondering this thought a woman tapped me on the shoulder.I expected her to say I needed to move, but instead she said she had a place in her pew if i would like to sit.God bless her!

The mass was so extraordinary it brought me to tears. The choir sang for the first half hour before the beginning of the mass The whole carmelite community of priests residing there at the monastery concelebrated with my favorite Fr Don .He wore the beautiful gold vestment and his homily was outstanding as usual.

I have attended midnight mass there quite a few times, but this was by far the most memorable. Not just because the kindness of the lady who offered me a seat, but because of the deep reverence and the love that permeated the entire congregation

Midnight Mass was good. fortunately we had a Priest from Institute of Christ the King Sovereign Priest who celebrated the Mass so we didn’t have to go to the bad Novus Ordo Mass. Think about this: our Priest said the full confiteor but the Pope did something very bad and said the shorter confiteor as he faced the people not the altar. So our Midnight Mass was way better than the Vatican’s. (I did just watch the first minutes from the Vatican).

Midnight Mass (really at midnight, too) was great! The Roman Canon; sung Christmas proclamation from the Martyrology; incense; and a perfect mix between Christmas hymns (e.g., O Come All Ye Faithful, Joy to the World*) and choiry stuff (e.g., O Magnum Mysterium, Alma Redemptoris Mater). I suppose I could have stood to have the preface sung or something like that, but it was, I believe, the priest’s first time celebrating with EP1 in the nova translatio, so I can lay no fault. Church looked beautiful with tastefully decorated greenery and candles; no kitschy stuff.

Felix dies natalis DNIC omnibus!

*Well, the downside of that one is that I can’t think of it without thinking, “Jeremiah was a bullfrog! Was a good friend o’ mine …”, but hopefully that’s just me.
