I was at Hobby Lobby picking out beads to finish a rosary I was making for a friend. My kids were so fascinated with the bead aisle. It is almost a beautiful museum in it’s own way.

They kept picking super weird beads and asking me to make them a rosaries. I said if you start saying it with me more often I’ll make you any sort you want.

Later I was thinking back on it and wondered if little pink pig beads are inappropriate for a rosary?

How weird is too weird you think?

I stick to basically solid colors unless the beads can clearly be linked to some Catholic tradition or represent some Catholic belief.

Pink piggies are probably not gonna work. 😆 You could probably make a decent argument for Sheep on the other hand…

I seem to remember something about people wearing them around their necks as jewellery. I wouldn’t mind that in a way if the person was a Catholic but not if they weren’t, so i suppose it might be better if no one did that.

I don’t think the beads should be too odd, just doesn’t feel right, and speaking of that they should actually feel right too, slip through the fingers fairly easily and help you know how you’ve progressed through the beads.

If it’ll help them pray the Rosary, then you can’t really go wrong with it, right? Maybe it’ll be the special thing that keeps them in the Catholic faith.

Little pink pig beads? I love it.
Our Lady of the Little Piglets. What child wouldn’t love that?

Is it one of the St. Anthony’s that has a pig? I guess the saints do give us a lot of material.

I don’t think that would be bad or disrespectful.
If they’re going to pray the Rosary more often, mission accomplished!

If I can use my fingers, or the 10 rifle rounds on my belt while I’m hunting, then I think almost anything that helps you keep count of a decade is fine.

I have one made from resistors and capacitors soldered together. Couldn’t find any of my real ones so just made one.

Yeah, geek, I know.

Rugged Rosaries make an awesome Memento Mori rosary. My wife thinks it’s scary, however.

Pink piggies sound fine to me if it will cause them to want to pray the rosary more! I truly don’t think it matters unless the beads are something sacrilegious. After all you don’t even need a rosary to pray the rosary, technically 🙂

I have one made of skull beads. I use it during November. Memento Mori.
I’ve seen skull beads and while I don’t care for them, lots of people do. I’ve also seen soccer ball beads and beads from other sports. Why not pig beads?

this whole subject is weird. I have frequently used the free rosaries made of plastic beads on nylon string. My only desire is to not have the ave beads too close to the Pater Nosters.

I love that! I made one out of paperclips and rubbber bands while proctoring a standardized test. I like the sound of yours better.

My stepdaughter’s godfather recently sent her a Memento Mori rosary for her birthday. The beads are made of skulls, the same as yours.
