I have been searching in vain for several years to find a Spiritual Director. Parish priests are too busy and there is no order based in my area where religious live. At one point I contacted an order and asked if they could match me with someone who could provide spiritual direction through correspondence. They did match me with someone, but he was clearly not enthusiastic about the prospect and encouraged me to turn to the Blessed Mother for spiritual direction.

If anyone has suggestions I would deeply appreciate them.

If your parish priest is too busy, then he should be able to recommend someone. If you are discerning a call to the priesthood or religious life, your local diocese should have some kind of office or department of vocations and they will help you find one. A spiritual director does not need to be clergy or from a religious order, just someone who is well grounded in the Church and that you trust to get you on the right path.

THIS^^^^, but also call your Diocese, and call any retreat centers and monasteries in the area.

Similar to JM3’s first link, I began by asking around and started to ask people that I knew, so by word-of-mouth is how I found someone. I would try asking other Catholics that you know.

That is how I found the first Spiritual Director that I went to, who was a nun with a background in Spiritual Direction.

Then we moved, and the next person who was my Spiritual Director was my pastor.

Word of mouth is how I found mine, too. She’s a sister. I had another one who was a lay person, but she wasn’t helpful. I think I found her through word of mouth, too.

The most important thing to do is to pray for one. It may take some time but God will provide you with a spiritual director. Probably not the one you want but definitely the one you need!
