One definition of bless is to “speak greatefully of’” and so it can mean to praise and glorify.

I asked this once, I was told the word “bless” has two meanings.

When God blesses us, it means bestow His favor and help.

When we blessed God, it means we recognize His perfection and worship him.

If we look at the Latin word that it is used when we say “blessing God” you will see that it is a conjugation of the verb “benedicere” from “bene” (good, well) and “dicere” (to say, to speak). We are to speak well of God and to praise him. The concept is reflected in the Our Father when we say “hallowed be thy name”.
