Hi, I heard the Catechism of the Ukranian church is coming out this month. My question is how will this change this rules and regulations wise etc… I guess what im asking is what impact will it likely have?
A Catechism doesn’t change anything. It presents what is already there.Hi, I heard the Catechism of the Ukranian church is coming out this month. My question is how will this change this rules and regulations wise etc… I guess what im asking is what impact will it likely have?
I agree. My guess is that the new Ukrainian Catholic Catechism will affirm the traditional teachings of the Catholic Church on primacy and infallibility of the pope.
A couple of the bishop’s comments in the article make me think that the ecclesiological presentation in the new catechism will be basically Latin with perhaps an Eastern Christian veneer. An overview of its content is here by a Ukrainian Catholic Bishop involved with its development:

Alex,Your Beatitude!
It will be my pleasure and a great privilege to do so!
(I have an icon of you on my wall which I am observing right now . . .)
Reverencing your sainted hand, I implore your blessing,
The unworthy Alex
Does anyone have a source for this?Hi, I heard the Catechism of the Ukranian church is coming out this month.
No worries. I took your comment as a complement.Dear Peter,
Orthodox or not, you are a Rock!
Hopefully, the Catechism will be as close to Orthodox theology and praxis as possible.
Todd may not agree, but then again, as a Catholic, he is more Orthodox than many Orthodox!
I mean that as a compliment . . .
All the best,
Alex
Yes sir, you have put your finger on an issue about which there is much confusion within the UGCC and I doubt very much if the Catechism will resolve. In fact, whenever the Vatican sent someone to tell the UGCC bishops to forget about the patriarchate, this very idea e.g. Local vs Universal Church is brought up.No worries. I took your comment as a complement.
That said, I remain hopeful that the ecclesiology presented in the new catechism will be Orthodox instead of Latin, but my hope is tempered by a couple of things said by the Ukrainian Catholic bishop in the article from the FreeRepublic website that was referenced in an earlier post. It appears, that is, if I am reading the bishop’s comments correctly, that he distinguishes between the local Church and the universal Church with the implication that Rome (i.e., the Pope and the Vatican bureaucracy) is the universal Church. That of course is a false notion, and so I hope it is not a distinction to be found in the new catechism.
Dear Brother Marduk,Dear Ukranian brethren,
I look forward to seeing how the Ukranian Catechism handles the Immaculate Conception. From what I know, the Ukrainians, even before reunion, had a solid Tradition on the IC. I think a lot of Latin Catholics today are confused, despite the modern Catechism, about the IC - the IC only refers to Mary’s spiritual holiness, not her physical state. I hope the Ukranian Catechism makes this more obvious than the current Catholic Catechism does.
The Catechism will obviously touch upon the papacy. I hope it will give special focus on the High Petrine (i.e., collegial) aspects of the two Vatican Councils, perhaps even quote the Official Relatio of V1, which is a bountiful source for the High Petrine understanding of the Papacy.
Blessings,
Marduk
