Will be like a big world wide event or will he come like last time? Could he be here now? What will happen when he does return? Sorry but I can’t sleep and these questions keep nagging me. Thank you for your (name removed by moderator)ut.

Jesus will come again in glory with all the angels and He will judge the living and the dead, and His Kingdom will have no end.

Before He comes, though, all the celestial lights will go out and a large cross will appear in the sky, which will light up the world for a while. This is known as the sign of the Son of Man.

But Jesus’ return is imminent in the Eucharist, because He is really present in the Eucharist. He will be with us always, even to the end of the ages. Trust in Him! 🙂

“At that time if anyone says to you, ‘Look, here is the Christ!’ or, ‘There he is!’ do not believe it.”

Why not, Lord?

“For as lightning that comes from the east is visible even in the west, so will be the coming of the Son of Man.”

I see!

“At that time the sign of the Son of Man will appear in the sky, and all the nations of the earth will mourn. They will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of the sky, with power and great glory. And he will send his angels with a loud trumpet call, and they will gather his elect from the four winds, from one end of the heavens to the other.” (Matthew 24:23-31)

Confirmation of the literal interpretation:

"They were looking intently up into the sky as he was going, when suddenly two men dressed in white stood beside them. “Men of Galilee,” they said, “why do you stand here looking into the sky? This same Jesus, who has been taken from you into heaven, will come back in the same way you have seen him go into heaven.” (Acts 1:10-11) (NIV)

will he come like last time? Could he be here now?

Where did you get these ideas?

From what I understand in Scripture when Jesus returns there will be no doubt about what is happening.

Although a cradle Catholic I didn’t have much formal education in the church. When I go to sleep at night, I try to imagine Jesus returning. I have a problem with insomnia and instead of trying to work out problems of the day in my head I try to imagine something peaceful and joyful. I didn’t know if Jesus was going to come humbly into the world like he did a little over 2000 years ago or if it would be a spectacular event.

I never heard of the cross in the sky. This is the “Sign of Man”?

If you live a holy life (to the very very best of your ability co-operating with God’s Grace) Our Lord, God, and Savior’s great and terrible coming on the Last Day will not be anything horrible for you but a joyous occasion. Fear not, trust in Him and stay free from sin. He died for you, if you stay close to Him during your life there will be nothing to fear at your death or at His Second Coming.

The poster who wrote that He already comes to us in the Eucharist brought up a good point. When He comes in Glory, you want Him to recognize you, right? Go to Communion often! (Yes I know He’s Omniscient, just go with the metaphor.)

Act 1:11 Which also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven.

I’m trying to live a Christian life. I hope I make the cut.

It depends on me? My Blade and Blood? I’m not sure what you mean.
Everyone has different views on the second coming of Christ, whether it’d be the same belief with certain tweaks to it or a completely personalized vision; some groups look to the Bible for a literal explanation in Revelation, but a precious few try to interpret that.

No two imaginations are the same no matter the number of similarities because there is always that one difference.

By saying it depends on you, it’s my way of asking how you see the second coming of Christ. What do *you *think will happen?

JC is coming back w/ a big cross in the sky? Where is that scripturally?

Question: JC will return to judge the living and the dead. -sounds a little strange seeing how the dead are immediately judged and sent straight to heaven if they’ve led a “good” life. That scripture, in 2 Tim 4:1 sounds like the dead are dead and won’t be judged until his second coming…how is this explained by the Catholic church?

That’s simply a pious tradition (little ‘t’) - none of us is obligated to believe that the end times will play out that way. However, it’s a tradition that was widely taught, even in the early Church, to explain this verse from St. Matthew’s Gospel: “And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven. And then shall all tribes of the earth mourn: and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with much power and majesty.” (24:30)

It’s actually stated quite clearly throughout scripture - here are a couple examples:

Acts 10:42 - “And he commanded us to preach to the people and to testify that it is he who was appointed by God to be judge of the living and of the dead.”

2 Timothy 4:1 - “I charge thee, before God and Jesus Christ, who shall judge the living and the dead, by his coming and his kingdom…” (emphasis on future tense my own)

There are many more if you’d like to read them, and the only interpretation that satisfies them all is the existence of the general judgement - not to mention that this was the teaching of the Early Church Father as well. This will not change the result of the particular judgement (the one right after death), but it will be a manifestation of God’s Justice. Because remember, when He comes, “all nations shall be gathered together before him: and he shall separate them one from another, as the shepherd separateth the sheep from the goats.”

I hope that helps. Welcome to CAF 🙂

I have always wondered about that. He will judge the living and the dead? When we die we are judged and sent to three possible places. Heaven, purgatory or hell. I never understood why would you judge the dead if they have already been judged?

No sense in trying to figure out how the Judgment will come about. It’s impossible to understand with all it’s contradictions. Jesus only asked us to trust in Him. Other then that, there is just no way to understand how it will be.

I believe we judge ourselves but yet scripture says we will be judged. Now how does that figure in? I’ve always heard that we will stand in judgment, yet we will condemn ourselves to hell if that’s what we’ve earned. God does not throw anyone into hell. So which is correct? We don’t know and can’t know because for some odd reason, all of these things have been made very confusing for us, which tells me we’re not supposed to speculate on it. Lots of fun I’d say since we are a curious species. I’ll only keep praying on my knees for his mercy and His grace. Through the blood of the Lamb, in accordance with God’s Will, hopefully He will accept me, broken and feeble as I am.

The opening of Max Lucado’s book “When Christ Returns” tells a wonderful view of what the end will be like. Mr. Lucado writes that it will just be an ordinary day, perhaps you’re returning from work, and all of a sudden you will hear the blaring of trumpets and sounds you’ve never heard before. There will be all the people looking up to the sky and there you will see the sky roll back and the King of Kings descending from the clouds in all His Glory, and the sound will be deafening, people will faint away with fear, and He will gather his elect from the four corners of the earth. He will call up his own sheep and gather them into the heavens.

Of course, this is the Protestant view, but much of it is from scripture anyway. It’s an imaginary scenario, but I doubt it will be as simple as this. We can’t even imagine how quickly he will arrive. God has no timeline and we do. It could be in such a way that we won’t even know it’s happening and we’ll simply find ourselves standing there in some mysterious way before him ready for our judgment. This is why the bible says men will faint with fear and some will die from their hearts stopping. Scripture tells us it will be in the twinkling of an eye, whatever a twinkling means to God. Anyone who is not of God, or has refused to obey him and love him or even try to love him, they will be lost. In the end, it’s all up to the Almighty Father in heaven to decide who’s going where.

But let’s never forget His promise. Through the Blood of the Lamb we shall be saved. So everyone we must “Travel on our Knees” in these very wicked times. As Catholics we have been told all the truths which were given to us by His apostles. If we’re ready, penitent, and truly trying our best with God’s grace, to be in accordance with God’s Will, then we shall be saved. Praise the Lord for His goodness and His salvation. Thank you Jesus.

I see Jesus as a warrior figure and He will come as a warrior. It will be a world event and everyone will know. No Jesus is not physically (corporal) here yet.

Interesting. I never thought about a warrior figure. He will have a lot of evil to do away with. I’ve always imagined he as a figure of peace and love appearing in the sky. Then countless angles raining on the Earth to judge us and send evil doers to hell.
