I recall Cardinal Giacomo Biffi quoting some of the works of Vladimir Soloviev during a retreat which Benedict XVI attended. It made some sense. Unfortunately, I could see a day when masses of people jettison Jesus, his death and resurrection to all get along.Of course you can. With the plain speaking.
Revelation 1:7 says, "Behold, He is coming with clouds, and every eye will see Him.”
So is this in Matthew.
Matthew 24:27 states that the return of Christ will be like the brightness of lightning illuminating the entire sky from the east to the west
Its not a trick question in an exam. Jesus doesn’t lie. If Jesus says we will see him, and there will be choirs of Angels, and what we know of earth will be ripped open, there you go.
Jesus and biblical writers also warn of a person masquerading as Jesus, first, who will fool many, even the faithful. But that fake person wont be announcing his fake arrival in such a manner.
Quoting the work “Three Dialogues on War, Progress and the End of History,” Cardinal Biffi told his listeners that “the Antichrist presents himself as pacifist, ecologist and ecumenist.”
“He will convoke an ecumenical council and will seek the consensus of all the Christian confessions, granting something to each one. The masses will follow him, with the exception of small groups of Catholics, Orthodox and Protestants,” he said.
The cardinal added that Solovyov says in that work: “Days will come in Christianity in which they will try to reduce the salvific event to a mere series of values.”
No cross
I wouldn’t call it a “problem”; it’s more like a concern. I always wondered if indeed Christ’s return would be in a spectacular fashion, or if He would return as a simple, quiet man who gains a small following of the True Believers leaving everyone else behind.Your doubt is a problem for you to overcome. Fortunately, I don’t have that problem anymore, I used to but prayer and practicing a regular religious life within my parish with my church family and at home with my family has banished it.
Regardless of what anyone on earth believes, when Christ returns everyone will know that it is Christ. That’s what the Bible and the Church teaches. Their responses to him will vary but it won’t matter because by then it will be too late.
Or better yet, come to live among us personally! If only he had left us some kind of message, some kind of book like thing we could look to for answers. I wish he had done that…:
Funny and kind of eerie that this very thing is so prevalent today…there are numerous threads on here with people making this very claim.2 Peter 3:3-6New King James Version (NKJV)
3 knowing this first: that scoffers will come in the last days, walking according to their own lusts, 4 and saying, “Where is the promise of His coming? For since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of creation.”
BUt for this person to fool so many, even the faithful (and the elect), its pretty obvious he will have to appear to be a very devout and good catholic, and Id bet its safe to assume, to even suggest this person was the AC, would be frowned upon, probably get someone banned at CAF or excommunicated from the CC.Of course you can. With the plain speaking.

So if someone rocks up to you and says hey there I am Jesus, unless you are a Saint privy to private revelation, or , unless the world’s just ended, and everyone sees Jesus descending from Heaven, its a safe bet fake news is at work again.
Revelation is thought to have been written by the Apostle John, while living in exile in a cave. The language of this book was quite common in some Old Testament books, and perhaps better understood back in the day. We still understand Jesus is being described as the lamb with the seven horns. We understand the martyrs dressed in white robes asking how much longer. We understand the answer that there are still more martyrs to join them, (this was written 2k years ago).
So whether the author really saw all this and wrote as a visual diary, or as a narrative, one day we will know.
Well sort of, the AC will be ‘groomed’ by satan thru out his life, preparing them to take on that role when they reach the right age, so if this is true, satan would have to know at least 15-30 yrs in advance, and really once the AC announces himself to be God, the bible gives a pretty detailed timeline on what will happen, leading up to Jesus returning, so…I stick with my Bible. No one knows the hour or the day. I do know that the Bible tells us to look for signs but I also know that we being fallible human beings tend to read our own meanings into things. I will tell you that every generation has always thought since the time of Christ that it was the last one. I think it appropriate to say that we are living in the end times we have been for 2000 years.
Interesting point…we will have the Church to look towards for guidance as many will follow the False Prophet believing him to be Christ.I always wondered if indeed Christ’s return would be in a spectacular fashion, or if He would return as a simple, quiet man who gains a small following of the True Believers leaving everyone else behind.
Good question. But, no.Lots of good discussion here. Let me ask this; since the Lord is free from what we would consider time and space, could the return of Christ already have happened? Better yet, could the return of Christ be an individual experience? Does it have to be a specific day/date/time as our never human minds understands time?
After all, Christ was present at the beginning, He was present with Moses…all before He was born of a human body. Could the end of times be similar?
What does that mean? Will it be similar to how I felt when I had my encounter with Our Lady? I felt a tremendous surge of what I call “pure love energy” throughout my entire body, it almost made me faint, the room was spinning but I was standing still. I felt like I was going to be elevated. I was an atheist when that encounter occurred.Nope!
You’ll literally feel it in your body! (Natural body, psychikon soma; versus “spiritual body” or pneumatikon soma).

Won’t we be in Heaven before he does?Good question, because many will be deceived by another.

Revelation 1:7 says, "Behold, He is coming with clouds, and every eye will see Him.” There will not be a person on earth who is unaware of Jesus’ return. Jesus Himself describes the manner of His coming. Matthew 24:27 states that the return of Christ will be like the brightness of lightning illuminating the entire sky from the east to the west. Verses 30 and 31 of the same chapter describe Jesus coming with power and great glory and with the sound of a great trumpet, that awakens the righteous dead who are then gathered from the ends of the earth
There wont be any doubt.![]()
Yep, the Bible says this person will be a wolf in sheep’s clothing. And even able to perform convincing spectacular magic tricks. And no doubt would lead to readers on CAF thinking you or I had a few too many roos loose in our top paddock when we pointed out the evil this person is. What’s that movie lineBUt for this person to fool so many, even the faithful (and the elect), its pretty obvious he will have to appear to be a very devout and good catholic, and Id bet its safe to assume, to even suggest this person was the AC, would be frowned upon, probably get someone banned at CAF or excommunicated from the CC.
BTW, Rev. also speaks of a 10 horned beast coming out of the sea, most people do not believe a real monster with 10 horns is going to exit the sea during this time, instead, its representative of something else.
If we are saintsWon’t we be in Heaven before he does?
I don’t know if I’m allowed to comment here but most Baha’is accept the return of Christ in the year 1844… which as you may recall was also the expected time by Millerites… (those who accepted the prophecies outlined by William Miller in the early nineteenth century). In May of 1844 the Bab Siyyid Ali Muhammad declared He was the Promised One in Shiraz, Persia… Baha’u’llah declared He was “Him Whom God will make manifest” as prophesied by the Bab and this occurred in 1863 in Baghdad… Of course we Baha’is also believe the Manifestations of God are the Return of the previous Ones… so in that since we would say Baha’u’llah was also the return of Christ.I once met a Baha’i fellow in college. He said baha’oula was the second coming. I looked up the prophecies concerning Jesus yet to be fulfilled in both new and Old Testaments. I won’t go into detail here but you could do the same with the church’s guidance. Eschatology is the general term for the study of the end times. Your Fr will know some good materials to start with. I am no expert, but it looks to me like the second comming will be a catclismic event even unbelievers will notice.

I also don’t think he will leave the faithful unrewarded.

I wonder if everyone will feel that when Christ returns or only those worthy.
