We are all aware that Jesus is to have a second coming (or at least I hope those that are Catholic on here are aware of what we are told will eventually occur) - anyway, I’m wondering, how will we know that the person that has come back is really Jesus and not some mental patient claiming to be Jesus (of which there are many in this day and age)? I’m not asking this to get sarcastic answers, this really is something I’ve wondered about. Thanks for your posts!

Aren’t we supposed to have an Apocalypse and anti-Christ first? There are also some very interesting biblical quotes in this respect… One such statement can be found at Matthew 16:28, in which he says “I tell you the truth, some who are standing here will not taste death before they see the Son of Man coming in his kingdom.” Another example is found at Luke 21:32, where he says “I tell you the truth, this generation will certainly not pass away until all these things have happened.” He makes similar statements in Luke 9:27 and Mark 9:1. Just sayin’

Spend your time loving God and neighbor and you won’t need to worry about recognizing Him. We are not judged by recognizing him as far as I know. Rather, we are judged on our love.

There will be false prophets, but if they tell you to get a sign etched on your forehead or hand, you might want to think twice.

He’ll be the one that can do miracles
I would not rely on miracles. Jesus Himself tells us:
"For false Christs and false prophets will arise and will show great signs and wonders, so as to mislead, if possible, even the elect.
(Matthew 24:24 NASB)
And Paul warns us that they will come with power, signs and false wonders.
Then that lawless one will be revealed whom the Lord will slay with the breath of His mouth and bring to an end by the appearance of His coming; that is, the one whose coming is in accord with the activity of Satan, with all power and signs and false wonders, and with all the deception of wickedness for those who perish, because they did not receive the love of the truth so as to be saved.
(2 Thessalonians 2:8-10 NASB)

It happens at the end of time, so, what with the bit about clouds of glory and a new heaven and earth, I think it’ll be fairly obvious.

I think the text indicates the Jews will recognize him first if he and when he returns.

The Church will tell us.
The Church does not even proclaim to say they will tell anyone or verify anything if it is happening real time.

Look how long they took before commenting on some false Marian apparitions.

They let “Mary” talk and talk, for years without saying much about it. For years.🤷

Being a skeptic, it does make me wonder about those things especially.

If the apparition would have been of Christ…

Well, I think we both know the Catholic Church would not stand back and say, let’s sit here for a bunch of years and wait and see.

When bold claims are made, of being the True Church, I would expect that Church to guide people a wee bit.

Scripture tells us how we will recognize Jesus at his second coming at the end of time. Here are a couple of examples:

Matt 25:31-33
When the Son of man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, then he will sit on his glorious throne. Before him will be gathered all the nations, and he will separate them one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats, and he will place the sheep at his right hand, but the goats at the left.
1 Thess 4:15-18
For this we declare to you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive, who are left until the coming of the Lord, shall not precede those who have fallen asleep. For the Lord himself will descend from heaven with a cry of command, with the archangel’s call, and with the sound of the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first; then we who are alive, who are left, shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air; and so we shall always be with the Lord. Therefore comfort one another with these words.
Somehow I think the Lord’s return will be obvious to one and all.

Somehow I think the Lord’s return will be obvious to one and all.
Even those that are not His will know that day.

Matthew 24:29 “Immediately after the tribulation of those days the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light; the stars will fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken. 30 Then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in heaven, and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. 31 And He will send His angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they will gather together His elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.

Revelation 6:12 I looked when He opened the sixth seal, and behold,[e] there was a great earthquake; and the sun became black as sackcloth of hair, and the moon[f] became like blood. 13 And the stars of heaven fell to the earth, as a fig tree drops its late figs when it is shaken by a mighty wind. 14 Then the sky receded as a scroll when it is rolled up, and every mountain and island was moved out of its place. 15 And the kings of the earth, the great men, the rich men, the commanders, the mighty men, every slave and every free man, hid themselves in the caves and in the rocks of the mountains, 16 and said to the mountains and rocks, “Fall on us and hide us from the face of Him who sits on the throne and from the wrath of the Lamb! 17 For the great day of His wrath has come, and who is able to stand?”

Amos 5:16 Therefore the LORD God of hosts, the Lord, says this:
Code:
“ There shall be wailing in all streets,
And they shall say in all the highways,

  ‘ Alas! Alas!’
They shall call the farmer to mourning,
  And skillful lamenters to wailing.
17 In all vineyards there shall be wailing,
For I will pass through you,”
  Says the LORD.
18 Woe to you who desire the day of the LORD!
For what good is the day of the LORD to you?
It will be darkness, and not light.
19 It will be as though a man fled from a lion,
  And a bear met him!
Or as though he went into the house,
Leaned his hand on the wall,
  And a serpent bit him!
20 Is not the day of the LORD darkness, and not light?
Is it not very dark, with no brightness in it?
   21 “ I hate, I despise your feast days,
And I do not savor your sacred assemblies.
22 Though you offer Me burnt offerings and your grain offerings,
  I will not accept them,
Nor will I regard your fattened peace offerings.
23 Take away from Me the noise of your songs,
For I will not hear the melody of your stringed instruments.
24 But let justice run down like water,
And righteousness like a mighty stream.
25 “ Did you offer Me sacrifices and offerings
In the wilderness forty years, O house of Israel?
26 You also carried Sikkuth[a] your king**
  And Chiun,[c] your idols,
  The star of your gods,
  Which you made for yourselves.
27 Therefore I will send you into captivity beyond Damascus,”
Says the LORD, whose name is the God of hosts.**

Oh, how the hebrew scriptures are so uplifing.

😦

Christ himself never said these things in the bible. I wonder why.🤷

Does he really hate your feast days, and well… um…

all the rest of this stuff?

I think we need a Rabbi to step in and give context to this passage.

I think the passage in Amos deals with either the dispersal of the 10 tribes or the Roman exile (The Israelites had just defeated the Greeks and then were taken by their Roman allies)

I am no Rabbi, but God, even in the OT Gods finial acceptance was not based on keeping the law, it was based on the heart and mind.
1 Samuel 16:7 But the LORD said to Samuel, “Do not look at his appearance or at his physical stature, because I have refused him. For the LORD does not see as man sees; for man looks at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart.”
2 Chronicles 16:9 For the eyes of the LORD run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to show Himself strong on behalf of those whose heart is loyal to Him.
Jeremiah 17:10 I, the LORD, search the heart,
I test the mind,

Even to give every man according to his ways,
According to the fruit of his doings.
Jeremiah 11:20 But, O LORD of hosts,
You who judge righteously,
Testing the mind and the heart,
Let me see Your vengeance on them,
For to You I have revealed my cause.
The real question is how does a man come to Jesus? that no man can come to me, unless it be given him by my Father. Does the Father recognize baptismal as the definer or perhaps taking the Eucharist? The finial test is this, the test of the heart and mind. All the ceremonies and works mean nothing unless you pass the finial. The heart and mind.
Now testing the mind would certainly include having a proper understanding of Gods Word dont you THINK?

When you are ready the Father approves you to His Son who Baptizes you in the HS.
We are saved by faith, not works: even in the OT "For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith–and this not from youselves, it is the gift of God–not by works, so that no one can boast. For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do " (Eph. 2:8,9).

1 Timothy 2:4 who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. 5 For there is one God and one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus,

Philippians 1:6 being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ;

John’s warning to those who had heard the true Gospel,(1 John 2:25-27) " See that what you have heard from the beginning remains in you. If it does, you also will remain in the Son and in the Falther. And this is what he promised us–even eternal life. I am writing these things to you about those who are trying to lead you astray. **As for you, the anointing you received from him remains in you, and you do not need anyone to teach you. " .
