How will you/your local Church Community be celebrating Halloween this year?

I saw the Thread that some Baptists will be burning Bibles. :confused:

I will be going to Confession and attending the All-Night Vigil at the local Russian Orthodox Church where the Wonder-Working Icon of Kursk Root will be venerated. holycross-hermitage.com/pages/Orthodox_Life/kursk_icon.htm

What everyone else here on the Non-Catholic Forum will be doing on Halloween?
 
At the Lutheran seminary we have a Reformation party. Everyone dresses up as their favorite Saint or Heretic and has to buy an indulgence (ticket) to enter. 😃

Most members of the Meeting will be at home handing out candy to the kids who drop by…nothing official as far as recongnizing the “holiday”.

Absolutely amazing!
What a blessing!

I had the opportunity to the venerate the Wonder-working Icon of the Kursk Root Mother of God about four years ago at Holy Trinity Monastery in Jordanville, New York. It is an experience beyond words. I noticed an overwhelming scent of myrrh which exudes from the Icon.

About a year or so ago, the Greek Church had the Myrrh-Streaming Icon from Hawaii available for veneration. orthodoxhawaii.org/icons.html The myrrh smelled like strong roses. We were given a bit of the myrrh on the Q-Tips in a baggy to take home. The Q-Tip fit into the holy oil bottle given to me by the monks at St. Anthony’s GOC Monastery in Florence, AZ. I’d hoped the myrrh would cause the holy oil to smell like roses too, but it didn’t work out that way.

Amen. The Hawaii Icon visited a Greek monastery near me in July. I still have the two Q-tips that were dipped in the streaming myrrh. I placed them in a plastic zip-lock. Although they are not moist–they still retain that other-worldy scent. Me and my family continue to anoint ourselves with it.🙂

My grandaughter’s elementary school had a Trunk or Treat last Friday. The Police and Fire Departments were there with their vehicles giving out candy, and a Halloween safety talk was given to the kids. Then they went around to the trunks of the cars of the parents who volunteered and got their candy. A lot of the cars were decorated with Halloween themes and the kids were all dressed up. One lady brought her Pug all dressed up in a fireman’s suit. He was a hit. The kids had a ball. Cute idea.

Well I grew up in Germany and it’s a rather new thing over there… The Halloween Parties started when I was legal drinking age… The thing is that I actually loved and enjoyed these parties because it was the cheapest alternative to a party that I would have given myself anyways… I went to a Halloween party and started celebrating my birthday from midnight on… Back then I was rather busy on my birthday with church activity…
Well this year I’ll be going around handing out tracts and candy to children and wait till midnight to celebrate my birthday… This year it’s on a Sunday so I’ll make sure I don’t stay up too late to go to church in the morning…

I have to ask, and with all charity and respect, but because this is a Catholic forum … if you dress as Martin Luther, which category does he fit under?
 
We are having a Halloween carnival in the Parish House tomorrow evening. One hour of games and treats and the kids can wear costumes. 😃
