I must say I do enjoy that sig quote šŸ™‚

but I consider myself very computer literate, maybe not so literate in a way that I can fix a computer or something, but I know enough about computers that I can work my way around issues and such and I’m going beyond a simple point and click.

one last thing Macs can do very high tech things that can only be done by computer literate people. Video editing, Photo editing, audio mixing, just to name a few in a professional and very good way, in as good as a way as similar programs on PC can do.

I’m very bias in my opinion on this but don’t think that all mac users don’t really know how to use the machines they have because many are experts on things of the Mac world. Personally I hope to the opinion that Mac’s software is the top of the field but if I could have PC hardware but MAC OS this is what I would prefer but I haven’t taken the time to find that out yet.
Actually Apple migrated over to PC hardware quite a few years ago. Around the time they came out with the X series OS which at the core has FreeBSD a variant of Unix.

Nowdays all Apple hardware is based on Intel, that I am aware of, there is a thriving hacking community that ports the OS over to PC hardware like Dell, Toshiba and HP laptops.

Basically the only thing that differentiates an apple laptop from a Dell or other brand is the BIOS which of course in Apple’s case is proprietary.

The was a pretty cool read and a trip down memory lane. Thanks for the post!!

So which versions of Windows are not being counted?

  1. *]Windows 1.0
    *]Windows 2.0
    *]Windows 3.0
    *]Windows 95
    *]Windows 98
    *]Windows 2000
    *]Windows ME
    *]Windows XP
    *]Windows Vista
    *]Windows 7
    *]Windows 8

    Why are the last two 7 and 8? Why not 10 and 11 (or at least 9 and 10 if you lump 2000 and ME together)?

Because anything prior to Windows 95 wasn’t really an operating system. Windows 1.0, 2.0, and 3.0 were just shell programs that piggybacked on DOS.

Ah. That makes sense. Windows 95 was the first I ever heard of Microsoft. For a second, I thought it must have been a typo because it seemed to me Microsoft was only around for 20 years. :o

What I’m saying is that in order to use an apple os you either have to know computers so well that you could install a mac os on a non mac produced machine, or just have to buy a mac product.

OSX is my favorite OS and I don’t have the knowledge or the time to install OSX on a non mac machine. (note this is illegal so the only legal way to use mac osx is to buy a mac)

Actually it’s because the incremental upgrades are not being counted

Win95(Win 4)
WinXP(Win 5)
WinVista(Win 6)

The other releases were considered ā€œupdatesā€ to Win 95.

The supposed breakthrough for Macs and Windows supposedly was the use of icons rather than commands. But look at all the outdated icons!
Floppy disk = save
Scissors = cut
Clipboard = paste
(NB: these lat two predate the typewriter!)
Print = a printer from ~ 1980

Switching from soft to hardware I was just installing a new mouse – remember when they came with trackballs & would quit working as they got dirty?

  1. Windows 95
Ah, yes… Windows 95. And does anyone remember what the top 10 things were that the 95 in Windows 95 really stood for?
  1. The year it was due to ship.
  2. The number of floppies it would ship on
  3. The percentage of people who would have to upgrade their hardware
  4. The number of megabytes of hard disk space that would be required
  5. The number of pages in the EASY-INSTALL version of the manual
  6. The percentage of Windows programs that won’t run on the new OS
  7. The number of minutes it would take to install.
  8. The number of calls to tech support required to get it to run
  9. The number of seconds before it crashed
  10. The number of people who would actually PAY for the upgrade

this has turned into a tech geek dominated thread and i love it 😃
