How would the Orthodox react if a newly elected pope ever took the name of Andrew?
Knock yourself out. Why should we mind, or care? How would the Orthodox react if a newly elected pope ever took the name of Andrew?
The Orthodox might be more impressed if he took the name Peter II.Sometimes popes take names indicating what kind of a pontificate they would have.
Would the choice of a name like Andrew indicate that that particular pope might be persuing all avenues at reunification?
I just wonder if most Orthodox would view it as a good thing or as a slight.
Would people be offended if a pope took the name of Thomas?
Would Epsicopalians or other Protestants be offended if a pope took the name of James?
I think that Andrew would be a good name for a pope.
Or a golfer.they might think we had elected a Scotsman as pope
It’s more of a “what’s in a name” thing; there have been 6 Popes with the name Paul, and around 23 or so (not counting the anti-Popes, of course) with the name John, yet it didn’t lead to a mass exodus of people suddenly scampering towards Rome…How would the Orthodox react if a newly elected pope ever took the name of Andrew?
