***One of my dearest and closest friends just revealed (confessed) to me today that she had an abortion after her second child was born. She is not Catholic but knows how strongly I feel about this and how very pro-life I am…she asked my forgiveness…

All I could do was tell her that I would pray, very hard, for her and for her soul. She explained that she was in a bad place in her marriage and couldn’t bring a third child into it, although, she did end up having a third one about 5 years ago…she is not close to this child and she told me today that she feels so much guilt over her abortion that she’s never been able to properly bond with the third one…

This is only the beginning, the reason for the confession is because she is in the process of going through a very ugly divorce…and there’s a possibility she could be having an affair.

Like I said in my opening paragraph, she is a dear friend but I am truly in a state of confusion, I seek the advice of my wise friends on this forum…thanks, in advance, for any words, suggestions, ideas, etc., you can offer.***

Your friend is definitely in need of forgiveness and emotional support. There are many “post abortion” healing groups out there if you search the internet.

Go to Jillstanek.com She is a former nurse who who is extremely active in fighting abortion and has a superb website. One of her moderators is a woman named Carla who is a post abortion counselor and could help you and your friend. I highly reccomend you seek her out via the website and contact her. Like you friend, Carla is not a Catholic, but a very sincere and dedicated woman whose primary focus is helping post abortive women.
You can very easily contact her WITHOUT having to post anything on the blog. Just address an inquiry to her through the moderators of the blog and I;m sure she’ll respond.

Rachel’s Vineyard is also a very good source for post abortive women. You can find them on the internet.

The fact that your friend has shared this “secret” with you indicates that she needs to know that forgiveness is hers for the asking through Jesus Christ. Her abortion is having negative effects on her other children and this obviously is not a good thing.

If you don’t want to go through a website for help, I reccomend you ask your priest for advice on how to help your friend. He would probably agree to meet with her and counsel her on this.

Either way, you should act on this as soon as possible. The effects of abortion can linger on forever and continue to do damage to so many aspects of a persons life. The sooner you provide your friend with a source for healing and forgiveness, the better. Obviously, PRAYER is of paramount importance. Being non-judgemental is equally important and an absolute MUST.

Help IS out there. Keep us posted on your efforts to help your friend. I will pray for you and ask God to steer you in the right direction in for seeking peace for your friend.

She needs post abortion counseling.

Look for a program in your local diocese, or go to Project Rachel or Rachel’s Vineyard websites for national programs.

***Thank you all for your responses, they are much appreciated. Great suggestions and I will look into all of them. I seriously feel that my girlfriend is in need of a lot of counseling…since she has carried this burden for so long, I think she has sort of given up and has committed other acts that I know could jeopardize her soul…

Please do keep her in your prayers. Again, thanks so much for taking the time to respond.***

I agree that she needs counseling.

I will say a prayer for you both today in the chapel!

From someone who has been there…encourage her to seek help through Rachel’s Vineyard.

I will pray for her.
