leaving aside the fact that your argument presupposes the fact that they were written when you think they were, and is therefore self serving, that is an entirely plausible theory of those events nor am I suggesting we take them as gospel. I’m just saying that the papacy is not connected to the end of the world directly and immediately. we are going to loose traditional structures that the church has long considered hers. I don’t know the Vatican will be one of them, but when the Pope startes saying that the current era is not unlike the fall of the roman empire I find cause to be mildly pessimistic about the future outcome of the church. Especially for Americans, Europeans, and Englishmen. All of whom will, given the current climate, face some form of formal persecution during the reign of the next Pope.

This is why I find such amusement in the Western Media, i.e. the NY Times, Washington Post, etc. They look at a conclave like a presidential election because they do not understand that it is Christ who gives us His Vicar. Truth will not change for the 21st Century or whatever agenda they have. The Gates of Hell will not prevail against His Church!
