How would YOU react if you were there?

I hope I would have had the courage (as I find confrontation difficult) to tell the store employees that they were acting in an incredibly discriminatory and rude manner, and that they had just lost my patronage as a result.

Sure, private businesses have the right to refuse service to anyone, but as G.K. Chesterton once said, “Having the right to do something is not at all the same as being right in doing it.”

Would anyone be applauding if the store owner had refused to serve someone wearing a mantilla? Or someone wearing a cross necklace? Or a man wearing a clerical collar? Somehow I doubt it. In the same vein, if a store owner had refused service to a priest in clerical garb because “they don’t serve pedophiles,” people here would be UP IN ARMS about it and denouncing the store owner’s actions in very strong language.

Well, it’s the same concept. It’s not fair nor right to refuse service to one person because you have an ideological disagreement with what others may have done in the name of her (alleged) religion (I say alleged because there are non-Muslims who wear the head coverings, so there’s no guarantee this woman was Muslim).

If the young woman had walked into the store and started destroying Bibles left and right, THEN the store could and should refuse her service (not to mention calling the police)! But the way they acted was uncharitable and unchristian.

Although I can understand the people who left, taking their business with them, I would have done what the last girls did and ask to speak with the manager. Religion totally aside, this is American and we are better than to act like that! Even if we are discriminated against in Muslim countries, this is America, we don’t do that (in theory). And the fact that this was a woman who was obviously no threat should have enlisted the support of the customers.

I live in an area where there are quite a few hispanics. It makes me so mad when people talk about ‘those people’ and just assume they are all illegals or out to get what they can out of the system and give nothing back.

I have been called naive but I think we should treat all people with courtesy.

I appreciate all the comments, thus far, really I do.

I just want to say one thing, now. Americans choose to live in this country, the United States–Americans who are Jewish, who are Catholic, who are atheist, who are Muslim, etc. They choose to live here because of the freedoms guaranteed by the Constitution–freedoms which do not exist in many other countries.

Even Muslims choose to be here–and often because of the freedoms and opportunities which they couldn’t find in the country of their parents, grandparents ,or great-grandparents. They choose to exercise the freedom of religion, just like Jews, Catholics, Hindus, Mormons and many other religious groups choose to do.

It is a real violation I think of American culture, which is built upon tolerance, to single out a single group for discrimination, when that group is only here because they share American values, hopes and dreams.

(By the way, I don’t condone the behavior of so-called Muslim governments and their discrimination, and I think it’s immature for anyone to say that because another group is evil they themselves have the right to behave wickedly.)

This is nothing new, read any serious history on immigration. A new group comes and becomes highlighted, xenophobes and biggots rear their ugle heads, the country goes insain for a bit, and then everyone get’s their sanity back, the biggots are rightly condemned and recoreded, and everyone agreas how terrible the whole ordeal was.

You’re right. That doesn’t really make it good or excusable I think.

You’re right. That doesn’t really make it good or excusable I think.
absolutly not, howver it is hopefull in a way.

Benjamin Franklen wrote horrible raceist things about the new German immigrants, teaching your children German was once even outlawed, Chinese were formally declaired unassimilateable by the Supream Court and banned, Jews were once villified with the most horrific and vulgar language imaginiable, Same with Italian, Slavs, Catholics, Irish, British(briefly, 1812 and all) etc.

The retoric is disturbingly simmilar, sadely while we can be confident things will get better, we don’t know when, or if it will resurface.

I just find it particularly shocking that so many Catholics are so prompt to jump of this banwagon of biggotry considering the prejudice we once faced.

Look at how the Baptists interviewed JFK

I certianly respect the Muslims I know more than a biggot such as yourself.
You can call me whatever you like. It doesn’t bother me. I’ve been called a bigot before because of my views on Islam. In the PC world we live in, anybody who dares to criticise Islam is labelled a bigot or an Islamophobe. In the world of Islamophobes such as myself, people like you who play along with the Islamists are called “useful idiots”. 😃

Personally, the more I think of that video, the more I smell a rat!! I think it was contrived that way deliberately as propaganda for the Muslim cause. Muslims are always playing the victim.

Just think about it. Doesn’t it seem strange that the hidden camera was placed in that particular store where the Muslim woman was bound to be treated in such a discriminatory fashion? I’ve seen many Muslims in stores and have yet to see one treated badly!

Muslims live much better here than non-Muslims live in Muslim countries where they are treated as second class citizens and not even allowed to practice their religions freely. They always face discrimination and intolerance from Muslims.

Muslims in this country and elsewhere keep making demands that no one else would dream of, and are getting their way in everything. Muslim prayer times are being allowed by their secular employers, footbaths and prayer rooms are being constructed for them in airports and colleges, now they’re even getting segregation of the sexes in gyms even at Harvard so that Muslim women can use the gym by themselves, and at the same time Jesus Christ and Christianity are being mocked and ridiculed as in the University of Virginia’s student paper “The Cavalier Daily”.

A 25 year old Israeli rabbinical assistant was assaulted by a group of Arab teenagers screaming “Allah akbar” in Brooklyn on Tuesday evening. See here.

Too bad Archbishop Sheen is not still with us to take on Islam as he did communists and communism! Any of you watch his episode on patriotism in his show “Life is Worth Living” which aired on EWTN recently?

Its the same reason why Muslims went to live in the U.K. but after a town becomes colonized things like this begins to happen:

The 18th century church has regularly had windows smashed by youths, who on one occasion shouted: “This should not be a church, this should be a mosque.”

telegraph.co.uk/news/main.jhtml?xml=/news/2008/03/17/nvicar117.xml

my goodness. how often can you find an incident like that with other religions. thats a thousand times worst than what the clerk did.

Amy, what have you gotten yourself into? out of the frying pan and into the fire.

Discrimination is always wrong.
Yet Muslims demand what they are not willing to give, equal treatment.
Is it true of all Muslims, including those living in Western Europe and in North America (leaving aside the terrorists of course!)?

Was this more disgusting than sawing a person’s head off and videotaping it, or putting dried faeces on chocolate cakes and selling them to nonbelievers, or Muslim cabbies refusing to transport blind persons because of the seeing eye dog? Muslims want respect, but they deny it to others.

Vickie
Same question as the one directed at rrp…

I guess I’m having a difficult time trying to understand what feces and cutting people’s heads off have to do with…“Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.”…He isn’t recorded of having said…“Do to others as they do to you.”

What “They” do should not determine how we as believers in Christ repsond to injustice…can someone please help me understand why it’s ok for those who follow Jesus of Nazareth to disregard our repsonsibility in treating others in a Christ like manner…not base our behavior on how others treat us?

No more than it taken to not assume all black Americans are thugs because they are disproportionatly represented in the Jail population.

All it takes is the recognition that most people are generally good, that the actions of a minority do not represent the majority of that group, and to treat all people as you wish to be treated
And also, Ivan Karamazov, what happened to the principle of justice by which a person is presumed innocent until he is proven guilty? This sounds to come from a truly Judeo-Christian spirit, by the way…

Is it true of all Muslims, including those living in Western Europe and in North America (leaving aside the terrorists of course!)?
That only becomes a reality when muslims implement Sharia Law. Otherwise muslims can be fairly nice people. Especially when they are the minority.

It’s Holy Thursday, where we commemorate the Last Supper. Tomorrow is Holy Friday. Let’s not forget Jesus’ way to react toward those who put Him to death: “Father, forgive them, for they know not what they are doing!” Like the good teacher, like his true disciples. Have a good Paschal Triduum, everyone (for those who are either Catholic or of another Christian denomination). Happy Resurrection Day! And for all of you, non-Christians included, God bless you all, and Peace be with you!👍 👍 👍

Some Muslims do. Some Catholics deny respect to others too. Some Jews deny respect to others. Some Protestants do. Some Mormons certainly do. Some Whites do. Some Blacks do. Some lesbian daughters of one eyed Episcopal priests do.

In America, we are judged as individuals. American values have ideals like “all (wo)men created equal” and “congress shall make no law”. The shopkeeper apparently doesn’t understand that, and neither do you.
And those values you just mentioned are some of the things that make America such a great country to live in as I, who came as an immigrant from Cuba to escape communism know very well.

Muslims however, do not believe in our secular laws but in what they consider the divine law of Sharia, so wherever they go, they eventually want to see it established as the law of the land.

Here is what some prominent Muslims in the U.S. have stated:

Ibrahim Hooper of CAIR: “I wouldn’t want to create the impression that I wouldn’t like the United States to be Islamic sometime in the future.”

Omar Ahmad of CAIR: “Islam isn’t in America to be equal to any other faiths, but to become dominant. The Quran should be the highest authority in America, and Islam the only accepted religion on Earth.”

Isham Bagby of CAIR: “Ultimately we can never be full citizens of this country…because there is no way we can be fully committed to the institutions and ideologies of this country.”

All I will say is that Sister Amy is doing a good job of proseletyzing for Islam by starting this thread in the first place! “Divide and conquer” as they say.

I will repeat again, that video is nothing but propaganda!

That is true, but that also makes this country vulnerable to infiltration by those who wish us harm as these quotes from this article state:

  1. *]During an official meeting on Islamic-Christian dialogue, an authoritative Muslim person, speaking to the Christians participating, at one point said very calmly and assuredly: "Thanks to your democratic laws we will invade you; thanks to your religious laws we will dominate you…"
*]During another Islamic-Christian meeting, always organized by Christians, a Christian participant publically asked the Muslims present why they had not organized at least one meeting of this kind. The Muslim authority present answered in the following words: "Why should we? You have nothing to teach us and we have nothing to learn." A dialogue between deaf persons? It is a fact that terms such as “dialogue”, “justice”, “reciprocity”, or concepts such as “rights of man” and “democracy” have a completely different meaning for Muslims than for us. But I believe that by now this is recognized and admitted by all.
Such hypocrisy on your part! You recently complained in another post that our laws were interfering with the Islamic way of life as in banking procedures and in another one you called this country “vulgar” and claimed you were moving to Saudi Arabia where “religious” people can live freely.
It is a real violation I think of American culture, which is built upon tolerance, to single out a single group for discrimination, when that group is only here because they share American values, hopes and dreams.
More hypocrisy! See my reply above. Muslims don’t share American values, hopes or dreams! We believe in separation of church and state and Muslims do not! Muslim prayer habits are causing chaos in the workplace. Jesus told us, “Give to Caesar what is Caesar’s and to God what is God’s” You live by the barbaric and archaic rules of the bedouin Arabs of 7th century Arabia that call for the stoning of adulterers, killing of apostates and cutting off the hands of thieves to name but a few, we do not! The demands are never ending! The fact is that Islam and democracy cannot coexist.
(By the way, I don’t condone the behavior of so-called Muslim governments and their discrimination, and I think it’s immature for anyone to say that because another group is evil they themselves have the right to behave wickedly.)
Really? Your Quran calls for such discrimination against unbelievers! I’m not taken in by your tactics. I visit Jihad Watch and FFI remember?? I knew you were a Muslim proseletyzer even before you declared yourself a Muslim when you posted the thread about Mary in Islam.

You can call me whatever you like. It doesn’t bother me. I’ve been called a bigot before because of my views on Islam.
Let me give you a helpfull hint.

You’re not a biggot because of criticising Islam, Criticise Islam all you want, you are a biggot for the things you say about l Muslims.

“there is a disturbing trend of Alchoholism in Irish Catholic communities”

"If the Irish don’t want to be treated like drunks, they should stop getting drunk all the time!’

The former can be an acadamic debate, the latter is biggotry.
In the PC world we live in, anybody who dares to criticise Islam is labelled a bigot or an Islamophobe. In the world of Islamophobes such as myself, people like you who play along with the Islamists are called “useful idiots”. 😃
One of us certianly is, only not particularly usefull

“Muslims want respect, but they deny it to others.”

That is not a criticism of Islam, that is biggotry towards Muslims.

“I sometimes doubt the credability of the notion that Moses himself wrote the Torah”

“Jews are greedy!”

The former is a Criticism of some things asvanced by Jewish theologians, the latter is stupid biggotry.

Wow.

the Muslim woman was an actor, as was the biggoted employee, the point of the investigation was to see how customers would react to the said biggotry.
Muslims live much better here than non-Muslims live in Muslim countries where they are treated as second class citizens and not even allowed to practice their religions freely. They always face discrimination and intolerance from Muslims.
What do you mean by Muslim countries. Is Bosnia a Muslim Country? How about Turkey
👍

Now do one about those dirty Irish:eek:
A 25 year old Israeli rabbinical assistant was assaulted by a group of Arab teenagers screaming “Allah akbar” in Brooklyn on Tuesday evening. See here.
That’s absolutly horrible, I hope the thugs who attacked him are tried and punished to the fullest extent of the law.
Too bad Archbishop Sheen is not still with us to take on Islam as he did communists and communism! Any of you watch his episode on patriotism in his show “Life is Worth Living” which aired on EWTN recently?
