Very true. It’s not commensurate with the teachings of Islam or Judaism either, at least as far as I understand those two philosophies.

With regards to Islam, Muslims have no universal leader that can give authoritative and binding interpretations of the Qur’an for everyone. So, both the Muslim terrorist and the peaceful Muslim derive their interpretations from certain Qur’anic verses, and each believes the other is erring.

In the Catholic Church, we have a universal hierarchy that officially represents us and guides us. If a Catholic teaches something contradictory to the Pope and Bishops in full communion with him, than that Catholic is in error.

While I can’t remember where that article was, I’ve got something pretty similar. If you understand Hebrew, watch the film entitled Mur imdb.com/title/tt0413018/ without the English voice-over. It should be available in the original (when I saw it, it was Hebrew/Arabic with French subtitles). Pay attention to what the Israeli Jew says when he’s interviewed by the reporter. You’ll catch him pining for the days of peace, tranquility and justice in his home village – as a Jew in Saddam Hussein’s Iraq.

I went to the site and registered to IMDb but I’m not familiar with this service. How does one watch the movie? Is there a download button? I understand Arabic, but I don’t understand Hebrew, only a few words here and there. Some Hebrew words are very similar to Aramaic (Syriac), and so I might pickup on them via Aramaic.

Getting back on topic, I think this is the real danger of terrorism. We go round and round, with attacks and counterattacks, until we are fully dehumanized and civilization disappears. The video, with the shopkeeper’s nasty talk is the unfortunate first step in the process here, and this is why I’m glad it’s being exposed in the media and criticized by regular people.

I have not answered yet the topic question of this thread, so in response to the question: “How would YOU react if you were there?”

I would first ask the clerk if he is a Christian. If he says yes, then I will point out to him that as Christians we must love our neighbors, including the Muslims. If he says that Muslims are our enemies, then I will say that we must love even our enemies. If he then agrees with Christianity that even the Muslims are to be loved by Christians, then I see no reason why he would still refuse her the service.

If he says that he is not a Christian, then I will simply say that even Muslims are entitled to human rights in a democratic society, and try not to prolong the discussion with him. If he continues to refuse her the service, then I’ll just buy the stuff on her behalf and she can pay me.
