Being raised Orthodox Jewish, I can testify that Jews have no problem expressing their views to God. I have often witnessed men and women standing in the synagogue (not during services) raging and ranting, pleading and sobbing to Him. This is neither disrespectful nor frowned upon. Righteous anger can be every bit as much prayer as solemn head bowing. It’s just an unusual way for Christians to behave.
One of the culture clashes between white Europeans and Jews, blacks, South Americans and others is the expectation that the stoic European way is correct. It’s not, it’s just different.
Personally, throwing dirt at a Marian statue is a bit shocking but the Fr.’s point stands. It is a form of prayer. Just my humble opinion.
