You could, I suppose, always respond with a fake catechism style question and answer, thus:

Q. Why did God make alcohol, tobacco, and marijuana?
A. God made alcohol, tobacco, and marijuana to see if men were stupid enough to use and abuse them.

If they’re stoned enough, tell them it really is in the catechism, and you heard it from a nun. That ought to shake them up a little bit on some level!
 
I would respond with

"Yes God made it. And yes everything that God made was good. It has its purposes however we live in a country that does not allow it.

God tells us to obey his laws first and the laws of the state second where they don’t intersect. The best option is to move to a more enlightened, a more Christian country that allows it or to fight the law that bans it. Unfortunately, as a Catholic, I cannot partake in it but as the law is restrictive I can help in your fight to make it legal"
 
God made nettles, poison ivy, and poison oak, too. Tell them you will try pot just as soon as they strip all their clothes off and roll around naked in beds of poison ivy and nettles!

Some things are not to be messed with.

Find new friends. The THC part aside, inhaling smoke is harmful. So, yeah…find new friends.
