I recently made friends with a girl that is (I do believe) a Baptist. She is one of the few people at my college that is near my age (most people are either a good bit older or as much 9 or ten years younger). She seems very kind, and very sweet, and I bet she certainly noticed the cross around my neck (there’s a miraculous medal around my neck too, which is less obvious). She has not attacked me for being Catholic, and I don’t think she would. But how would you explain the Catholic faith to someone with that background? I would actually like (name removed by moderator)ut from both Catholics and Baptists on this. Thanks.
I would take it by topic starting with how one is born again by water and of the Spirit, through water baptism.
Jesus answered and
said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, **Except **a man be
born again, he
cannot see the kingdom of God. 4
Nicodemus saith unto him,
How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time into his mother’s womb, and be born? 5
Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee,
Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God]
[Acts2:36 Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly, that God hath made the same Jesus, whom ye have crucified, both Lord and Christ. 37 Now **when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, **what shall we do? **38 Then **Peter said **unto them,
Repent, and **be baptized every one **of you in the name of Jesus Christ
for the remission of sins, and ye shall
receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. 39 For
the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call. 40 And **with many other words did he testify **and exhort, **saying, Save yourselves **from this untoward generation. 41 Then
they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were **added unto them **about three thousand souls. 42 And **they continued **stedfastly **in the apostles’ doctrine **and
fellowship, and in
breaking of bread, and
in prayers.]
First the Gospel was preached, those who belived repented, baptized for remission of sins and received the gift of the Holy Spirit being born again by water and of the Spirit. Baptism was not only for those adults who accepted but also their children. What where they added to when baptized? The one Apostlic Fellowship (the Church) and they continued stedfastly one apostlic **doctrine], one worship breadking of bread=Mass and in prayers. [Gal3:26 For **ye are all the children of God by faith **in Christ Jesus. 27 For **as many of you as have been baptized **into Christ have put on Christ.]
[Eph5:25 **Husbands, love your wives, even
as Christ also loved the church,
and gave himself for it; 26
That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word,]
The people of God are cleansed and sanctified with the washing of water by the word, in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit in water baptism.
Of course you must know how to defend the faith scripturally. I would be glad to help you with any question that may come up on this line or send me a private message. God Bless
