Hep B can be spread by everyday contact, the HPV in the vaccines is only spread by sex. There are several hundred sprains of HPV and only 4 are protected by the vax. Of those 4, only 2 cause cervical cancer.

Your son won’t have to recieve a vax that protects him against a disease he can only catch by having sex. The vaxs he recieves protects him from diseases that can be passed by everyday contact. If the HPV that causes cervical cancer could be passed by everyday contact, I wouldn’t be opposed to it.
Yes, he will. The hepatits B vax that they give infants is to prevent a sexually transmitted disease. I didn’t give him a choice in that one. It’s routine. From the centers for disease control:
HBV is spread when blood from an infected person enters the body of a person who is not infected. For example, HBV is spread through having sex with an infected person without using a condom (the efficacy of latex condoms in preventing infection with HBV is unknown, but their proper use might reduce transmission), by sharing drugs, needles, or “works” when “shooting” drugs, through needlesticks or sharps exposures on the job, or from an infected mother to her baby during birth.
Hepatitis B is not spread through food or water, sharing eating utensils, breastfeeding, hugging, kissing, coughing, sneezing or by casual contact.

i didn’t read all of the previous posts so sorry if this has already been stated.

Judicial Watch Uncovers Three Deaths Relating to HPV Vaccine

Event Reports Obtained from FDA Detail 1,637 Adverse Reactions to Gardasil

(Washington, DC) – Judicial Watch, the public interest group that investigates and prosecutes government corruption, today released documents obtained from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) under the provisions of the Freedom of Information Act, detailing 1,637 reports of adverse reactions to the vaccination for human papillomavirus (HPV), Gardasil. Three deaths were related to the vaccine. One physician’s assistant reported that a female patient “died of a blood clot three hours after getting the Gardasil vaccine.” Two other reports, on girls 12 and 19, reported deaths relating to heart problems and/or blood clotting.
As of May 11, 2007, the 1,637 adverse vaccination reactions reported to the FDA via the Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System (VAERS) included 371 serious reactions. Of the 42 women who received the vaccine while pregnant, 18 experienced side effects ranging from spontaneous abortion to fetal abnormities.

It’s passed through blood. Similar to AIDS. The HPV strains that cause cancer can only be spread through sexual incounters.

This may not be true.
Well when they prove it can be spread though casual contact i’ll adjust my position. For now there is no evidence one can contract a cervical cancer causing strain though casual contact.

How is HEP B spread through casual contact? On the CDC is says specifically that it is NOT.

Just in case you missed the previous post:
From the CDC:
"HBV is spread when blood from an infected person enters the body of a person who is not infected.
…Hepatitis B is not spread through food or water, sharing eating utensils, breastfeeding, hugging, kissing, coughing, sneezing or by casual contact."

Blood. I’m bleeding, you have an open cut, I have hep B, I accidently bump into you, my blood gets into your cut, you become infected.

Do a review of the medical literature. There is evidence suggesting the high-risk strains may be transmitted non-sexually.

You mean mother to child, during birth? That’s still genital related.

FONT=Comic Sans MS]There is evidence that genital HPV may be spread non-sexually. Keep in mind there is no conclusive evidence.
There is some evidence big foot exists, but none of it is conculsive.

That was not necessary. I am simply offering some additional information and want to stress this route of transmission is controversial. Before you assume to know the evidence, I suggest your review the medical literature (primary resources). I’m just a nurse practitioner sharing the evidence. I’ll exit this thread now. 🙂

Dr. Harper believes that the rate of cervical cancer could actually see an increase if Gardasil continues to push the vaccine to girls as young as 9.
**“I would not vaccinate a 12-year-old with Gardasil. I’m not convinced Gardasil is going to last through the college years,” she said.
Harper points to data indicating that the antibody levels in women vaccinated with Gardasil decline after a few years.** She believes further research is needed to determine if a booster shot would be needed five or 10 years after the first vaccination.
She’s concerned that if a child gets a vaccine at 12 but, as is normal, becomes most sexually active between the ages of 17 and 23. She may not have the protection she thinks she has when she needs it most.

Your insult was uncalled for. Bottom line is that parents are in charge of doing what they think is best for their minor children. They have the ultimate choice of education, nutrition, healthcare, etc., regardless of what their child may think or wish. Children often look at the immediate effects (ow a shot), as was mentioned to you before, instead of the long term results.

Simply because you oppose it solely based on the way it is transmitted does not mean the others don’t have a good case that the girl’s future husband could be a carrier, or that she could be raped, or a myraid of other things could happen. This has nothing to do with a parent trusting their daughter.

I agree with this. However that does not mean their decisions are safe, effective, or right.

But it has everything to do with the choices of their daughter.

Of course, parents are human too, and may make mistakes. That is why it is such a huge responsibility to be a parent, and try to research things enough to make the best decisions possible for their charge.

How does a husband being a carrier or being raped have anything to do with the choices of the daughter?

I’m going to come right out and say it:

I am disappointed with this thread. I know this subject is controversial which is why I asked for advice, but I do not think that bickering and barely-veiled insults are called for. We are a Christian website, and I think it would behoove us to act like it.

Thank you for all of the opinions, it’s something I’m going to have to discuss with my doctor, but I have a feeling I am going to end up getting the vaccine to be safe. Even if it doesn’t protect against every strain, it does protect against some, and some protection is better than none.

It’s never one’s choice to be raped and I would never imply that it is. As far as the husband being the carrier, who one marries is one’s choice, but I’m so sick of the husband arugment. If in another decade or more when these pre-teen girls get married, there isn’t at least a test to see if the man is infected, there is something wrong with medicine.

Your an adult, your choice is your own. Whatever you deside is solely up to you. Do what you think is right.

Your posts seem to focus on that if a child is given a vaccine that somehow takes away a future choice.

A girl is still free to choose to be a virgin
A girl is still free to choose who she marries
A girl is still free to choose to turn down a man that she somehow, happens to find out, has HPV

You are not being clear what choice is being violated, by merely giving the girl a shot.
