Malia,

Just think. He will be stateside for those 8 months and safe.

I am retired Navy and I understand wht your going through. God and your love will get you through. You have some wonderful advice here. I am sure the base has computers for personal use in the library or at the recreation centers, if you get you a web cam at least he can see you.

Sometimes, you can get a descent computer at a good will or a pawn shop.

:Please let your church know that you need help. If you have a base nearby let the wives club know. Remember that he loves you, God loves you and your baby loves you.

We got out to dinner tonight, YAY! It was great:thumbsup:… thanks again for all of the prayers and support. I will be leaning heavily on my CAF family over the next little while and I am so grateful you are here. So very grateful.

Still thinking about ways to get your DH a laptop/webcam.

Here in the States, there are groups that give technology to service people deployed far from home. We listen to a radio program called Kim Commando, I heard her give two webcams to a guy who was shipping out the other day.

While it might take a couple of weeks, start researching, write letters to groups that may have something for Canadian service people.

**On the computer side of things, we have a MAC at home. Anytime hubby has tried video chatting with far away family (who have PCs) it just doesn’t work.

So he is working tirelessly to convince me to let him get a Macbook:rolleyes:, lol. It would have to go on credit (one of those “don’t pay for x-amount of months” store things) and we already owe more than I feel comfortable carrying (got an air conditioner and a shed this summer). But I am starting to see it may be worth it. He has even told me it would be a present for me and he would just be borrowing it…:p.

I am trying to convince him to wait until he comes home for Christmas so he can get a chance to see what kind of resources are avaliable to him out there… but I have a feeling a Macbook is in our very near future:shrug:

Also, with the price of gas being what it is, the money we will be saving with him not here to use the car everyday may just pay for the laptop:eek:

You seem to have two concerns, firstly your husband’s absence and then his support of you with your health. Let’s look at two options:
  • For the first concern, you may find some assistance from your parish.
  • Given your poor health and your need for your husband’s assistance, I recommend that you approach a military welfare officer who could offer some suitable solution.

Get skype on both computers! It’s a free, easy-to-use voice and video chatting program that my fiance and I have used for over 3 years now to keep in touch, as we’re long distance. Much better than long distance phone bills. >.> I use a PC, and he uses Macs, and we have never had any compatibility issues between the two. You can get used laptops for only a few hundred dollars, even directly from companies like Dell. They might not be fancy, but if it helps your stress levels and your sanity to be able to talk to him and see him via webcam, I’d say it’s worth it.

It’ll be a hard 8 months for you two, but just remember that God is there whenever you need Him, and He WILL give you the strength you need, whether in your own body, or in the form of someone else’s help, to get through this. Take it a day at a time, try not to think about how much longer you have to go. Many hugs and prayers and sympathies from me to you, your hubby, and Lily. :console: :hug3: :crossrc:

We have gone that route before, both for ourselves and for some neighbors who were in terrible need. Unfortunately they weren’t much help.🤷

Been there done that…again, no solutions. They do offer respite childcare for a couple of hours a week but I have my mom for that…leaving Lily with strangers would be far more stressful (to me) than dealing with a tantrum, lol.
Rich people who say money doesn’t buy “happiness” can just give all of their money to me:D. It sure would come in handy right about now!!!

(by happiness I mean that of the world, not in our soul…)**

Thanks for the tip!!! We’ll look into that tonight 👍

But I am afraid the “once you go MAC you’ll never go back” bug has bitten hubby pretty hard… and he is starting to sound reasonable…uh oh:eek:

Honestly, as someone who has tried both regularly, there are pros and cons to both operating systems, and it really comes down to the user. My fiance, who is a computer wiz, has endless problems with his PC desktop, but I use a PC laptop with very little issues. He tends to try and get his computer to do things that an ordinary PC user would never do, so it probably doesn’t like that very much. 😛 I get driven UP THE WALL with frustration trying to use the Mac word processing programs; I much prefer the PC versions. So, to each their own.

Oops, I’m derailing the thread. >.> Back to your scheduled programming! 😃

Doesn’t he know…

PC = Catholic

Mac = Protestant

😃

LOL, he likes MAC so much he may just have to convert!!!:eek::eek:😃

On another note though…I am so sad right now. It is already Saturday evening…he leaves Monday. Very sad.**

:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

And you know, I was actually there as these two different systems came to be (been involved with computers since 1976). This is about as good as a description as I have seen!

Umm… Isn’t today Friday? At least it is here in Oregon. I think Edmonton is only one hour ahead of Oregon, not a whole day!

LOL:o… oops, got ahead of myself:doh2:

Maybe it’s because we went to confession today which is usually a Saturday thing…

but I’m still sad;)

Malia, you really are sad - it is only Friday evening and 5:43 p.m. at that.

Oh, honey, I will be praying for you.

And as far as Mac’s go, I wouldn’t have anyhting else either. I want a MacBook myself - so I can go sit on the couch and work on the computer and not be stuck in the office.

Thanks so much Brenda:hug1:

Well, I think he’ll be getting one:shrug:… but at least after this 8 months it’ll pretty much be mine to use:)

The military is giving him some money for having to leave his family so that will certainly help offset the cost.

FW,

you will be in my prayers. hang in there. before you know it, time will pass and he will be home with you and your lily.

God Bless. 🙂 🙂

**Thank you for all of the support and prayers everyone, they mean so much to me.

I am beyond frustrated right now. He leaves on Monday and so far has spent at least a portion of everyday this week having to go in and do stuff on base even though this is supposed to be his time off to spend with us. And tomorrow and Friday he will have to be there most of each day as well..**
**
Hopefully nothing will ruin our plans for dinner out this evening. It’ll be a combination farewell dinner as well as “celebrating” my birthday. But I feel way too sad to celebrate. We made plans to have dinner on Monday, got all dressed and made up, got to my favorite restaurant only to discover that they are closed on Mondays.:(**

The stress and no rest has kicked my fibro into a flare up and I feel awful…
In the South African military there is a term “Vasbyt!”
Loosely translated, it means “bite down hard and persevere through adversity”.

My experience is that it’s the change that’s the worst, once you’re on your own, you will find strength from the prayers and your own inner resources. You will also find support from many people.
…and you will Vasbyt!

You will probably be pleasantly surprised! But don’t overdo it, your husband probably wants to return!

Before long, your husband will be back and you will both be stronger.

dawid,
I love it!!! Could you tell me how to pronounce it.

Malia, It is the experience of change that’s the worst. You will be stronger because of it. Trust me. I speak from experience as my husband has been away for more than half of our eight-year marriage if I added up all the deployments and field problems. You can do this, and by the end it won’t be as hard as you thought.👍
